One star is one too many,

This review is from: Adventures of a Psychic: A Fascinating and Inspiring True-Life Story of One of America's Most Successful Clairvoyants (Paperback)
I found this book thoroughly disappointing. It was redundant and self-serving - 'check on it.' Also, if her best examples of her psychic powers are described in the book, I have to say, they are not impressive in the least. Sylvia Browne is always telling people to check on her accuracy but her leads are impossible to follow up on and she keeps things general enough to prevent accurate validation. She is rarely consistent in anything she says; for instance she talks about Francine in her book, yet stated on Montel that she does not talk to spirit guides. She also said that everyone 'on the other side' is thirty, yet minutes later she is describing a child spirit who is bothering someone. And what is this 'not knowing you're dead for a year' stuff? Aren't there any helpful spirits over there to inform the deceased that they have passed over? I think it is horrible how Sylvia shocks people with terrible news about loved ones (i.e; they are dead somewhere), then smiles, tells a joke or two and moves on to the next victim. I would like to know if any of these supposedly dead people have ever resurfaced?!? Sylvia mentions her son Chris in her book with great affection but barely mentions her second son, and doesn't have much to say about her mother either. I think the Browne family could use some serious counseling. This book did not make me a Sylvia Browne fan. Instead, it made me discount everything she says from now on. Anyone who pays her 400.00 for a reading is desperate indeed. Sylvia may say she is like an emergency room medic 'patching people up and sending them on their way' but I find her callous and cruel with no concern or compassion for those who seek her help and guidance. People would be well advised to look elsewhere - ANYWHERE else.

I was so excited to see Sylvia on Montell Williams show that I rushed out that day to buy "Adventures of a Psychic". The book was soo good that I read it in one night. It was so good to know that there is life after death and I will see my loved ones and not be in fear when that day comes. That same week I wanted more of Sylvia's works so I went to our local library and found "My Guide My Self". Boy was I disappointed. Here I found that this book dated 2/90 was the same EXACT book word for word, page for page, as the book I had just gone and paid $13 dollars for. I felt cheated. I don't know if Sylvia realized that we would find this out but I hope she addresses this and I feel an apology is owed to all who have gone to buy this book and then later to find out its the same EXACT book. Shame on you Sylvia!

If you've ever wondered what it's like to be precognitive, clairvoyant, clairaudiant, or to experience other psychic abilities, Sylvia Browne's ADVENTURE OF A PSYCHIC is a must read. For those who don't believe in psychic phenomena, this book will make the reader a believer. Written in clear concise tones, with undercurrents of both religious philosophy and pragmatism, Browne's ADVENTURE OF A PSYCHIC tells not only the story of Browne's life, but also gives a basic understanding of our purpose on this planet. The voice of Francine, Browne's spirit guide, imparts a basic understanding of the purpose of this "learner's planet" and the dimensions beyond. Despite the ability to help others with her gifts, Browne also makes it clear that her gifts don't guide her own actions; her mistakes create her life lessons just like everyone else. In addition, Browne shares her experience in helping with hauntings, missing persons cases and predictions of various tragedies or world events. Throughout the book, Browne emphasizes that all people have psychic abilities, and offers insight to opening to those innate abilities. Having listened to the abridged, taped version of Sylvia Browne's ADVENTURE OF A PSYCHIC, I assumed I was familiar enough with her story that the book would be a quick skim. While the tape includes inflections and details that might not be in the book that really give the listener a sense of Sylvia Browne the person, the book gives a deeper understanding of her psychic experiences and the lessons she wishes to share. While the text is less personal, less a "conversation", it does contain more detail, to the point that at times the book becomes a teacher. Indeed, both the book and tape must be experienced to fully appreciate all the lessons Browne has to share, as a person and as a professional psychic. Consequently, ADVENTURES OF A PSYCHIC both the book and on tape, as separate experiences, come very highly recommended. Bright Blessings, Weaver

Awesome!,
This review is from: Adventures of a Psychic: A Fascinating and Inspiring True-Life Story of One of America's Most Successful Clairvoyants (Paperback)
This book changed my whole outlook on life. I was so impresssed with it that I lent it to my mother, who in turn, lent it to several other people. So far, all that have touched that book have become believers. I have seen Sylvia on several television shows (including several local shows) and she is truly amazing. As a young child, I had such a hard time with a belief in a vengeful and wrathful God, who would take my 10-year-old cousin from this Earth by giving her an inoperable a brain tumor, which left half of her face paralyzed. She was very young and suffered for the last three years of her short life. NOW, I know that it wasn't that conventional God that took her, but that her blueprint dictated that she would only be here a short time to learn her lesson that she had decided on from the Other Side. Everything in this book makes total and complete sense, which is something I cannot say for today's religions. Good work Sylvia!

INTERESTING, PROVOCATIVE, AND ENTERTAINING...,

Having seen Sylvia Browne on the Montel Williams show, I was certainly captivated by her psychic ability, as she seemed to be so on the money with her revelations about some of Montel's guests. I purchased this book in hope of finding out more about this intriguing woman, who certainly seemed to be blessed with a remarkable psychic gift. The book is informative and highly entertaining, as Sylvia relates her life story, and the reader discovers how she evolved to be the person she is today. She tells the reader of her dysfunctional family and suggests that her gift is a hereditary one. She describes her psychic gift in detail and informs the reader of the use to which she has put her ability. Her journey in life has, thus far, been a fascinating and unusual one. She also gives the reader her vision of what lies ahead for each and every one of us, after we have moved on from this earhly plane. While one cannot be sure whether she is right or wrong, it still makes for some thought provoking and interesting reading. She believes death to be one's reward for living. This is certainly philosophically in keeping with her vision of what lies ahead for each of us, after death. The book, written in a warm, breezy, conversational tone, is very reflective of Sylvia's actual cadence and personality. Whether or not one is a believer is irrelevant to the enjoyment that one will derive from reading this book. Keep an open mind!

A Mixed Bag,
By Scott (Fremont, CA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Adventures of a Psychic: A Fascinating and Inspiring True-Life Story of One of America's Most Successful Clairvoyants (Paperback)
The book is part-biography, part-New Age studies. A primary theme is on perfecting the soul across many lifetimes. Many of the words serve to comfort and reassure. At issue is how information about "The Other Side" (i.e., the afterlife, the "invisible world") is revealed to us. The reader is encouraged to subscribe to the authority of psychic Sylvia Browne and her spirit guide, "Francine" (a.k.a. "Iena," a deceased 16th-century South American Indian woman), and therefore accept these revelations as truth. I believe that Sylvia and Iena have part-knowledge of the invisible world, and my hope is that Iena is not crafting her own stories, perhaps for entertainment or deception. Is it safe to assume that spirit guides, like humans, do not always tell the truth, or are they infallible once they get to the other side? The reader must decide. I was impressed with stories that told of assistance rendered to police and doctors. The ghost stories were appropriately spooky. The reading gets heavier when it offers spiritual exercises and statements of belief (based on a liberal Protestant Christian framework). There's some personal mudslinging here, too, that comes from an angry place, and it detracts a bit from the book's otherwise upbeat and hopeful tone.

I was really looking forward to receiving this book when I ordered it through amazon.com. I was very disapppointed. I do believe Sylvia is able to see things that many of us can't. I don't, however, feel that she gets the whole picture. There are inconsistencies in this book, such as stating that she "frequently" does police work free of charge. A few pages later, it says she "NEVER" charges for her police work. Which is it? When she said "several months after my father died, my mother passed away. No great loss". That was it. If someone is truly spiritual, they would never make such a comment about the loss of any life. Especially their own mother. The reference to the "psychic dynasty" of her family strikes me as extremely arrogant. I think Sylvia and her family are into money. The bottom line. That isn't where it lies. She needs to seek help herself, in my opinion.

I have to agree with the reader from Florida that this is the same as the original. I was supicious of this as I looked through it at the book store. The only thing new appeared to be the last few pages of the book--and that could be read in the bookstore in a few minutes. While I believe that Sylvia has a good book and is likely a good psychic, I don't believe that she is the best in the world. Has anyone ever looked at her predictions on her website? Many have yet to come true and some will prove impossible. For example, she predicts in the '97 or '96 predictions that JFKjr and wife would be expecting a baby. Doesn't look like it now.

I felt Sylvia Browne's Book "Adventures of a Psychic", was a bit on the melodramatic side. I couldn't find anything substantial about the life of, "Sylvia Browne", in fact I thought there was an awful lot of blaming the other person for all that went wrong in her life especially in the last chapter. I couldn't believe that anyone who claims to be such a tool for Gods good works could ever stoop so low, as to allow themselves to be promoted in this type of forum usually reserved for Movies, sports, and comedy specials, not spiritualists

There are any number of worthwhile books by or about psychics and mediums. This isn't one of them. It should be subtitled "My Fixation with My Womanizing Father" (doting Sylvia's comment on the death of her Been Dumped By." Ms. Browne comes across as shallow, obnoxious and about as insightful as a large rock. This book was in my bag of things to donate to Goodwill five seconds after I finished it. Truly a worthless book. It tells you essentially nothing meaningful about her "psychic gifts," even if you believe she has them. Read something by or about Eileen Garrett
