5.0 out of 5 stars A children's book about publishing a children's book
Adventures in Publishing is a unique idea. It is a children's book about how to publish a children's book. The verse rhymes, the illustrations are bright, very colorful, and professionally done, and the main character even grows from beginning to end! 1.0 out of 5 stars A total disappointment!
What a ripoff! I've never written an Amazon review before, but feel I should warn other potential buyers - this pamphlet is nothing but a 24-page ad for outskirtspress. I see that this book has a lot of 5-star reviews, 46 in fact, and 1 other 1-star. All that means to me is that I will never rely on the Amazon review system again!

5.0 out of 5 stars A children's book about publishing a children's book, December 8, 2008

Adventures in Publishing is a unique idea. It is a children's book about how to publish a children's book. The verse rhymes, the illustrations are bright, very colorful, and professionally done, and the main character even grows from beginning to end! Sure, children may like the colorful drawings featuring bright-eyed characters, magical castles, rainbows, and alligator-filled swamps, but at the end of the day, this is a "how to" book aimed squarely at adults. If you like test-driving a car before you buy one, this book lets you test drive the concept of being a pulished children's book author by holding an example of a children's book. Great idea!

5.0 out of 5 stars Adventures in Ingenuity, February 3, 2009
This review is from: Adventures in Publishing: How to Publish Color Children's Books with Original Illustrations, and Other Books in Full-Color for Self-Publishing Writers (Paperback)
Chris is right, this isn't a book I'd read to my kids but one I'd recommend every children's book author pick up. In addition to Mr. Sampon's previous work we are truly seeing a comprehensive guide for the self-publishing author. The quality here in terms of concise information and artistic and production quality is simply amazing. Keep up the good work.

5.0 out of 5 stars Clever, Colorful and Captivating, February 3, 2009
This review is from: Adventures in Publishing: How to Publish Color Children's Books with Original Illustrations, and Other Books in Full-Color for Self-Publishing Writers (Paperback)
A fun- to- read guide to self-publishing that instantly captures the attention of children and adult writers with its colorful artwork analogy of the "famous yellow-brick road." The captivating artwork and unique intermingling of fantasy Cindy who takes the journey from beginning to end of publishing with real-life, happy authors who have successfully followed the road is ingenious. I like the forthright and succinct wording, i.e "a deposit gets you me" and "more book for your buck." Makes me want to write a children's book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Totally recommended!, December 15, 2008
This review is from: Adventures in Publishing: How to Publish Color Children's Books with Original Illustrations, and Other Books in Full-Color for Self-Publishing Writers (Paperback)
Okay, so I know children's books are supposed to be cute, but here's a book that is not only cute, but very helpful, too. I have a son and wrote a story for him. Now I want to publish it, so my son and I both read this book aloud together. "Aw, isn't that cute?" I found myself saying at the end, but even more surprising was it answered some of my questions about publishing my own children's story and helped me overcome my biggest fear of all -- getting it illustrated! I'm not scared to publish my children's story now. I'm really excited! Totally recommended.

My Choice - My Life: Realizing Your Ability to Create Balance in Life

The bright colorful animated pages make this easy-to-read creative book a true pleasure. The content diminishes the pressure and stress of the writing process by providing a light spin on publishing. The witty use of words helps provide empowerment and motivation to anyone thinking about publishing their own book.

It was fun and encouraging to read such creativity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Creative and charming, April 21, 2009

I thought this book was very unique. It covers the dreams of what most authors, including myself, have as for as seeing their book come to life. I thought it cover the basic aspects of publishing without it being boring.

I'm looking forward to having my childen's book come to life with outskirt's publication. I have recently published my first book called, "Life" a book of poems which I am most pleased with.

5.0 out of 5 stars Realize your own dream of publishing a children's book, April 13, 2009

[...] I was intrigued by this book that will encourage other authors to write their own children's books.

This is a delightful story, expressed through the eyes of a child. It describes Mindy's journey toward realizing her dream of becoming a published author. It walks other potential writers through the simple publishing process that Outskirts Press provides. It includes testimonials by some of their successfully published authors. It also includes beautiful examples of the superior artwork that Outskirts Press can provide.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone, be you a child or an adult child, who has a dream of becoming a published author of a children's book. This book will affirm that you can realize your dream. Don't miss out on this opportunity. Read this book and believe that your dream can come true.

I found this book to be very informative and well as pleasing to the eye. It would be helpful to all ages, but especially to young authors that have lots of ideas and don't know how to put them in print.

Nancy DiGirolamo published author of

"97 Pictures of Kids on My Wall", a delightful true adventure into foster care.

4.0 out of 5 stars Outskirts Press, March 21, 2009
This review is from: Adventures in Publishing: How to Publish Color Children's Books with Original Illustrations, and Other Books in Full-Color for Self-Publishing Writers (Paperback)
Adventures in Publishing is written by Brent Sampson, president and CEO of Outskirts Press, a leading print on demand publishing company.

I have heard about Brent in association to his marketing book. I have friends who have published with Outskirts Press and they are very happy with the company.

Adventures in Publishing features a fictional character, Mindy, who has a dream to publish her children's picture book. She wades through the many scary publishing options and finally finds Outskirts Press. They explain to her the options in publishing her book, and make it seem simple.

This is not a story book for children. This book was written solely to help authors wade through publication. It is set up in picture book form to show the quality of Outskirts Presses picture books. The book is good quality and the illustrations are excellent.

Throughout the book, published picture book authors give testimonials about realizing their dream of becoming an author.

In the end, Mindy also realizes her publishing dream.

I recommend that the author shop around for book pricing before settling on a publishing company. I also recommend pricing illustrations. The book offers illustrations at a per picture cost. There are 16 illustrations in a twenty three page book. Yes, you will see your dream come true, but add all the costs together.

The main point is that self publishing is easy with Outskirts Press, and that is very true. There are other options out there, as well as the do-it-yourself market, but you need to decide if you are an author or a would-be publisher.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Book, January 18, 2009
This review is from: Adventures in Publishing: How to Publish Color Children's Books with Original Illustrations, and Other Books in Full-Color for Self-Publishing Writers (Paperback)
This book is meant to be a guide for the author self-publishing a children's book. The format is one of a children's book-what a great idea! The illustrations are stunning and the text is easy to understand. So easy a child could read it. :) This book really breaks down the process to publish a children's book. It's given me the push I need to publish the book I have written for my daughter.
