I read this book and loved it. I didn't know about the artwork problems until I came to check the reviews. If you are interested in Red Sonja, don't avoid this or the two rpevious books because of some bad reviews. Until another collection is released (which may never happen), this is what is available. The stories are good enough to outweigh any art problems. If you have the time to search out 30-year-old individual issues, that is great. I do not have the time for that, so I purchased and enjoyed this collection.

The color work in this trade paperback is horrible! Looks like it was done in a hurry by someone on work experience. The scans look like they were done off the printed comics. I have a hand full of the original Red Sonja.... even these look better on the old newsprint. Dark Horse comics are doing a fantastic job with the old Conan reprints, why can't these Red Sonja comics be as good? Such a shame, really ruins Frank Thorne's and John Buscema's great line art!

Here is a quote about these Dynamite reprints of the Red Sonja books from Frank Thorne himself: "My Sonja was raped by a computer! The line work that I labored over those years breaks up, and looks like it was spattered with ink. I'm not comfortable with computer coloring; it's too gaudy and slick. The technicians try to model the form, but it seldom is convincing. Stick with the original series folks."

All too true, these books are a bitter disappointment for those of us who have been waiting for Thorne's Sonja comics to be reprinted.
