About the Artist

Joe Deninzon is a versatile violinist based in New York who has been called "The Jimi Hendrix of the Violin". He has worked with Sheryl Crow, Smoky Robinson, The Mahavishnu Project, and the Trans-Syberian Orchestra among others. He has just released his second CD, "The Adventures of STRATOSPHEERIUS" on D-Zone records, to critical acclaim. Joe’s band, Stratospheerius, has been heavily involved in the New York jam band scene, performing regularly at clubs like Wetlands and the Knitting Factory, as well as touring the East Coast and Midwest. They were also winners of Inside Connection Magazine’s Showcase Competition and have shared bills with Mike Stern, Project/Object, Ulu, Sleigho, The Slip, and more. The group features Joe on six-string electric violin and vocals, Scott Chasolen on Fender rhodes and moog, Grisha Alexiev on drums, Rufus Philpot on bass, DJ Big Wiz on turntables, and legendary guitarist Alex Skolnick (who has worked with Testament and Stu Hamm). ! ! They mix the avant garde jazz/rock sound of the Mahavishnu Orchestra, the pop sensibilities of the Dave Matthews Band, and Chili Peppers-style funk, to create a STRATOSPHEERIC musical experience

5.0 out of 5 stars Best fusion I've heard in years, September 13, 2002

This review is from: The Adventures of STRATOSPHEERIUS (Audio CD)
The way this album segues seamlessly from furious instrumental blowouts to anthemic vocal chorus is great. What we didn't realize from Deninzon's first album is that he's one hell of a singer as well, and he employs his multi-tracked vocals to great effect here. What many jazz-rock envelope-pushers lack is a talent for hooks; Joe has more hooks than most pop albums.
