The Nomad has set sail! Finally!!,
By Tabitha (Ohio, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Adventures of Sinbad - The Complete First Season (Box Set) (DVD)
I'll be the first to admit that this is one of the cheesiest fantasy TV programs I have ever watched. We're talking cheesier than Xena's breast plates smothered in Velveeta, here. The sets are obviously reused, footage is often reused for different episodes, the acting is over the top, the special effects are severely lacking, every female extra manages to bare nicely toned mid-drift... It's like a B-movie...only longer. And it was GREAT! I loved every minute of it--the first time around when it was on air, and now I get to watch it whenever I want!
Zen Gesner as Sinbad overacts like it's going out of style but that's okay. It makes it fun. Do people even know what that means anymore? I mean, come on, it's fantasy. It's not supposed to be realistic. They're fighting Cyclopse and demons for crying out loud! As an added bonus, he's freaking hot. Jacqueline Collen as the beautiful and firey Maeve grounds Sinbad's colourful personality and I love going mushy when they get those "looks" but won't give in to their attraction to each other. I giggle like a little fangirl every time. Anybody willing to have a little fun with a truely charming show needs to buy this set. It doesn't have any bonus features, which makes me a little sad. But considering how long and hard the fans of this show fought to get it released to DVD, myself included, I'm not going to complain about the lack of commentary or an interview or two. There are, however, chapter selection menus and every chapter equals an episode. [...]

. . .I've seen some pretty scathing reviews of this DVD set and, I just don't get it. The picture quality is as good as I'd expect from a DVD and certainly better than when it ran on television.
There is an episode menu on each disc but there are no chapter-menus. No big deal. The availability of this set though, seems to change as often as did the Time-Slot for the Show when it ran on Television. Anyway, if you can get it, it's well worth purchasing. I can find nothing to complain about! (Waiting for Season 2 . . .)

This Canadian produced show was on syndication channels in the USA around 1996 - 1998. While it has weak acting such as one might find at a B-movie, and outdoor sets that repeat from episode to episode (same village buildings in quite a few), it has a special charm to it. The stories were, for the most part, creative and I grew to enjoy spending time with the characters.
As a synopsis, Sinbad is an adventuring sailor, earning his way by carrying cargo to various ports. The stories involve him and four of his crewmen as they right the various wrongs they encounter. They also are visited upon by giant creatures, both men and beasts, and battle demons from time to time. Basic standard fantasy fare, but charming in a way.

I do not like B-movies but this one is great. I only started waching this do to how hot sinbad was an he was such a man you know what I mean any way like what every one else said bad acting and under use of props still enjoyable to watch. I, like so many others have waited forever for them to release this dvd lets hope they do not make us wait to long for the other seasons. I personally like the other seasons better due to sinbad was more hot with longer hair and the shodow beard and he was less boyish.

Loved the show! Pop adventure,

Absolutely loved the show, can't wait to get my copy - found it Much cheaper at Amazon.ca (Canada). The 2010 release was only done in Canada, so if you are crossing the border, pick it up. Otherwise, go to Amazon.ca. You pay the international shipping, but it is still cheaper.

Fantasy Fun At It's Best,

I absolutely enjoyed this show every week and looked forward to it when I was younger, and by younger I mean 25! lol. No it wasn't going to win any awards but it was good ole fashion fun and fantasy week after week. Just try to find that on tv these days. Yes as everyone said the sets were reused and the graphics were out there but hey imagine trying to pull off reactions to nothing and then see what they came up with. Zen Gesner could give over the top performances occasionally but that made Sinbad even more fun. Plus for the guys, the ladies were certainly great to look at,just ask my husband and for the girls well Sinbad was certainly easy on the eyes, especially in season 2 when they let him macho up.
