The book had a lot of information on the importance of voice. It taught an individual how to develop and how to effectively use one's voice to it's fullest potential. It made the ability to develop one's talent much easier that what was atually thought by many people, especailly me.

Very helpful,
This review is from: Adventures in Singing (Spiral-bound)
As a novice singer in our community chorale, I was looking for a book that would review the basics (I sang in high school groups long ago) and teach me things to help me keep up with the near professionals in this group. The beginning section was an asset with lessons on breathing, sight reading, techniques for practice and many other valuable subjects. The last 2/3 of the book contains songs that have been around for years that provide opportunities for further practice. I would say this is a good book to use when wanting to review or learn the basics. It was recommended by my voice teacher.

Don't Make My Mistake,

This review is from: Adventures in Singing (Paperback)
First things first: The book is a decent introduction into singing, and was required at my school where I am majoring in voice. The first few chapters cover the physiological aspects in a mostly simple, fairly concise manner. The songs include selections from different languages and varying styles, difficulty and tempo. I would give the book by itself 3/5 stars.
Now for the down-side- whichi I'd give 0/5 for if I could. The book is supposed to come with a CD, which (as another review pointed out), did NOT come when shipped. At the time I paid something like 85 or 90 dollars for BOTH, and received the book in its plastic wrapping with no CD. I contacted Amazon and was told I would have to mail it back and they could send me a new one. To speed things up, I contacted the publisher, McGraw Hill instead, thinking they would be reasonable and accommodating and send me a copy of the CD that was missing from their product. I was completely disgusted at every stage of the process. I first tried calling 1-800-338-3987 as posted on their website, and could not get through due to "technical difficulties". I then e-mailed them with a detailed account of the problem and received an e-mail saying it would be within 48 hours I'd receive a response. So I waited until seven days later, and STILL no response, I called them again, the line listed on the website was still not working, and had to call 1-800-334-7344 to get a response from an obviously angry employee who WOULD NOT accept blame for ANYTHING. She expected me to dish out another 56.00 to order a CD from McGraw directly because it wasn't them who sold it to me, it was Amazon (because I'm sure someone in an Amazon warehouse stole the copy, right?). I was completely disgusted with her lack of sympathy and the company's stand on not mailing out that 2.00 dollar disc. I'm burning a classmate's copy right now and I will never buy from McGraw again. Having studied voice for about a year, I would recommend Voice and the Alexander Technique over this in a heartbeat for learning to develop the voice itself (though it doesn't contain songs, but has extensive exercises for smoothing out the voice and gaining control with power, plus their publisher is actually VERY helpful.) Hope that helps!

I just received this book for school. It's a great read but there is no accompaniment cd! It didn't come with the brand new book. I don't know why. So, just to let you know... this page doesn't tell you that it doesn't include the cd. :(

This book is a must have for the singer of any goal- at home or on stage. It explains how your body works in relation to singing, and includes exercises to get your tone resonating crystal-clear. If you buy one book on singing, this is it. It even has a wide selection of songs inside!

Ware's text provides a good combination of philosophy, anatomy, and exercises in the first section of the book that is easy to understand for beginning singers. The compilation of songs in the book also provides a good variety of repertoire that is suitable for young, beginning voices. Great resource for beginning singers and non-singers alike!

This publication is wonderful for people wanted to learn to sing. There is only one problem in the description on the website, the description gives the impression that the CD for this book is included, which it is not. Otherwise, all is well.
