4.0 out of 5 stars A lot of fun! March 19, 2011
This is really a fun series - a bit like the British version of "Davy Crocket." Lancelot is the hero who can never fail, is trustworthy, true, honest and kind. He and his cohort of knights, squires and various others wander the country, seeking adventures and saving fair maidens. King Arthur plays a smaller role, taking a backseat in the adventures. Merlin is a wonderful mix of charlatan and early scientist. There is never a hint of any kind of affair between Lancelot and Guinevere, as this series was meant for kids. Some of the episodes are in Black and White, some in color. The costumes are amazing, and the acting is wonderfully done. The filming was often done at actual castles, and the feel of the whole series is very authentic. The story lines were supposedly researched by the History and Literature Departments of Oxford University, and are faithful to the original Arthurian legends.

Overall, this is a wonderful series to watch! The sort of good old fashioned type of storytelling we don't get much of anymore.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting but would not buy again July 20, 2013

This series is from the early days of television (1955-57). Its filmed in grainy black and white, and may even be a direct tv camera recording. The scripts are at the junior high level, and they could use a good historical consultant. Not as good as the Richard Greene "Robin Hood" series by a long shot. (pun intended.) Caveat Emptor.
