Editorial Reviews

Sonic the Hedgehog leads a group of freedom fighters bent on restoring their planet s beauty and freeing its citizens from the tyranny of the evil Dr. Robotnik. The fusion of powerful storylines, witty banter and a dark atmosphere made Sonic The Hedgehog, dubbed SatAM by its legions of fans, a favorite among youngsters and teens when it premiered on ABC in 1993. Inspired by the phenomenon that took the gaming world by storm, Sonic The Hedgehog likewise broke through the barriers of what was expected of a Saturday morning cartoon.
Now all 26 episodes are available in this action-packed collectors box set!

Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog is just plain fun. While this Sonic and Tails tag-along might have you cringing at a few cheesy lines here and there, it's a funny, fast-moving classic that packs a lot of nostalgic punch for those of us who grew up watching it in the 90's. Not only that, it's loaded with old-school Sonic spirit. It's great to see this classic piece of Sonic history coming to DVD!

I love this series and have been patiently awaiting a release on DVD; however, I was shocked when I finally received it and found it wasn't the complete series. It's not even numbered volume 1 or anything. It was only by reading reviews that I realized that this is the first of a possible three volume series and Shout Factory isn't planning on releasing the other two volumes unless they get good sales from this first one. Bah. Way to drive away the customers, Shout Factory!

The series deserves a five-star rating, hands down. Shout Factory's stinginess on releasing the whole series may kill their sales and thus provoke them to not release the other two volumes. Hard-core fans might have to stick to downloading the rare, low-quality, grainy episodes to get their "Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog" fix. So overall rating: three stars. Release the rest of the series, Shout Factory!

There are four series of sonic the hedgehog. Adventures of sonic the hedgehog, Sonic Underground, Sonic the Hedgehog and sonic X. I have all four on DVD and I have found this to be the most enjoyable by far! The other one's are too serious for my taste, but this series is more cartoony and has the feel of original writing you don't see as much in the other ones.

21 years ago, a video game was released starring a heroic, fiesty, blue hedgehog. His name was Sonic and quickly became a video game icon. A year later, a sequel was released featuring the debut of his trusty sidekick, Tails and again became a hit. Another year later, in the Fall of 1993, as a result of being so popular, Sonic finally got his own cartoon; Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog! As a fan of Sonic, I gotta say out of all the cartoons, this is the best one! It has a perfect mix of action and comedy, a wonderful and faithful adaptation of the first 2 Sonic games, and really captures the essence of Sonic. AOSTH Sonic is my favorite Sonic, because he's heroic, smart, and wacky! He's a complete screwball in this one and I love it (like a mix of Mickey, Bugs, Woody Woodpecker, and classic Daffy. There's not better Sonic than a screwball Sonic)! Take it from me, AOSTH is true Sonic spirit and quirky, smart, and fun for everyone and should you buy it on DVD, get the Shout! Factory releases since they did a fantastic job! With that I'm up, over, and gone!

I used to watch this on Television, and it is probably one of those shows that unless you saw while growing up, and liked it, you won't like it now. It's definitely worth it if you're a Sonic fan, if only because it's Sonic...

Very lighthearted compared to SatAM, and was not nearly as well received although it was aired MUCH more. For anyone not quite sure, but thinks they remember.. This is the one where Sonic is obsessed with chili dogs. I always waited for his little life lesson at the end to be something like, "And remember, kids! Chili dogs DO NOT make you run fast!" ... But alas...

I'm glad this is basically an average animated cartoon. Nintendo tried live-action with Mario... It made their Zelda cartoon series feel like a mircale. Sonic's cartoon series did a wacky job, but that just makes it more amusing. Eggman had a mama , Tails grew 50 ft tall, and Sonic got turned into a baby. The series also set a new level for stupidness. To keep Tails safe, Sonic makes Tails stay in a ball pit in EGGMAN'S casino. At the end of each episode Sonic tries to teach safety lessons... one of them explained in great detail what happens when you climb into a dryer. I highly recommend this if you want a Sonic cartoon, every other one seems to be killing Sonic.

Many fans of the Saturday morning Sonic cartoon are, in my mind, overly-critical of this syndicated, weekday show. Sure, it was somewhat childish compared to the more serious SatAM show, but that was part of the charm. I don't always want to watch a cartoon that's a serious tour de force; Sometimes I just want to watch a cartoon, and this one is great fun. Sonic and the badniks have a great cat-and-mouse routine going, with a nice sense of humor throughout. I know it's Looney Tuney, but it's fun.

Alright. I will admit: The show isn't the best out there. The design is so extremely wacky it's ridiculous at times. The animation could be said the same thing (Robotnik's head was sideways while he was running in one scene), but in the end, it's a cartoon show based off the popular Sega game series...and it's funny.

While it can be pretty ridiculous, that's partly why it's humorous. You won't believe how weird the storylines are ("I created a robot to destroy all music!"), and you gotta love how Sonic actually disguises himself to trick Robotnik's two minions (Scratch and Grounder) most of the time. It's eye-rolling to see the situations Sonic and Tails could get into though sometimes, while other times, they are laughable.

Did I forget to mention that Sonic has a moral to teach at the end of every episode? Even those are weird, but of course, we expect the usual messages as well.

The show as a whole sounds really stupid, but you know what? It could appeal to many in a strange, but fun way.
It's ENJOYABLY stupid. And that's why I love this more than the Super Mario Bros Super Show.
Besides, with a company like Sega and Sonic voiced by the likes of Jaleel White (Urkel from Family Matters), the show has great production value.
