My youngest son and middle daughter just love the ocean creatures and whales and Dolphins are my middle daughters favorite animals in the ocean... Oh so are the penguins but this book didn't have the penguins in it. But it was packed full of adventures of 3 dolphins named Thunder, Sapphire and Flukie. During their adventures they come across whales, a giant squid and even swordfishes.

This was a wonderful book and easy to read by all children well probably not the beginners but them mom's and dad's can read it to them. I really like that in the book when you came across a word that the children may not know then it had its definition of the word at the end of each chapter. It also had some interesting facts listed and colorful picture pages.

My children enjoyed this adventure book and so did mom. I give this children's book an easy 5 stars and is well worth every penny that someone might spend on this book. Not only was it fun to read but it was also educational. My kids learned a few things from the book as they read like what plankton is and how a Juba whale got its name.

* I have been provided a complimentary copy of The Adventures Of The Thundering Whales for review from The Author Stephen Vadakin and BookSurge Publishing threw an opportunity from Bostick Communications. By receiving a complimentary copy it in no way obligates me to write a good or bad review. I am an honest reviewer and my reviews are based on my own opinion and only written by me.*

When reviewing books for children I have to put aside as much as possible my scientific background and try to use the mindset of a child. It is an often unfortunate fact that adults lose their childhood sense of wonder and belief, although in many cases it is the rudder that allows us to function in an often harsh world.
When I was reading this book I simply could not set that rational approach aside enough to appreciate it. Some of the events are simply not physiologically and mechanically possible and so my mind focused a great deal on that rather than the story. I thought about the reasons for some time and concluded that my inability to think like a child was at least somewhat motivated by the level of the book. The length of text on the pages and some of the large words such as "bioluminescence", "medallion", "immediately" and "mysterious" indicates that the minimum target is that of the late elementary school child. Yet many elements of the story are those found in books for younger ages. For example, magical talking sea creatures are plot devices that must be judiciously used when the target readership is older.

If you love sea life and especially whales, this book is a must read! Written easy enough and entertaining enough for kids, teachers could use this in the classroom and well as parents.

The reader and listeners will learn all about a variety of sea life from dolphins, to starfish, Blue whales, squid, Sword fish, and more! Told in a classic style of storytelling, the book follows the journey of three young dolphins named Thunder, Flukie, and Sapphire. As the reader and listeners learn of the dolphins struggles, and wits, we all will discover how clever dolphins can be, educate ourselves on some terminology and fall in love with the sea creatures.

Encouraging a care for animal life as well as the oceans, this book is great for teaching about the environment and wildlife conservation as well as directly about dolphins and sea creatures.

I found this story both delightful and educational and will use it for my own kids!

Thunder, Flukie and Sapphire are just three of the animals you will meet in Stephen Vadakin's book The Dreaded Weaved Catcher. This is the first book in a new series. When these three dolphins explore an old ship they find a strange medallion. As they are traveling along Thunder gets caught in a net and begins to sink to the bottom where he will surely die. A flash of the medallion and he finds a bubble around him. He ends up in an underwater cave where he meets several other ocean animals. For Thunder to be rescued the animals, some of which are enemies will have to work together. This was a great story about the many different animals we find in the oceans, how they live and it is also the story of their differences and how they use those differences to help each other. I can't wait for the others in this series to come out. Great books to put not only on the shelves in the reading or language arts classroom but also in the science classroom.
