From Library Journal
Wendling has selected some 2000 nonfiction videos as the best on subjects ranging from parenting to water sports. From exercise and home decorating to business startups and parenting, the subject areas covered represent some of the most popular videos in libraries. A detailed contents lists ten broad subject areas, with four to 13 specialized subheadings. Within each specialty, a narrative videography gives the titles in bold capitals, with a precis of the contents of each. Sources are indicated by abbreviations, and a complete source list is included at the end. No prices are given, but Wendling indicates that all titles are less than $100, the average being $29.99. This isn't quite a video version of Bill Katz's Magazines for Libraries, but it's better than anything else available. Highly recommended for public libraries.?Susan B. Hagloch, Tuscarawas Cty. Library Journal, March 15, 1996"Readers exploring their interests and public librarians intent on stretching their collecton development funds will like this guide...." --
Choice, October 1996"The burgeoning home video market has led to the availability of countless "how-to" tapes aimed at the general public. Wendling...has compiled a lively, readable subject guide to more than 2,000 'quality' videos from 70 different sources. The book is arranged in 10 chapters that cover most areas of popular interest, including 'Around the House' (home improvement, gardening, housework, cooking, party giving); hobbies and crafts; sports; outdoor recreation; academic and vocational skills; fitness and healthy living; and self-help guides. Individual videos are described in an enthusiastic sentence or two, and the source is given with current addresses and telephone numbers (most are toll free). Large print, attractive layout, and the use of bold typeface for headings and titles make the book easy and fun to browse. A useful name and subject index is also provided....This is a useful and well-written publication...." --
