3.0 out of 5 stars The Wildreness family is one Bear of a movie!
The Wilderness Family is a movie that makes me think of an American Swiss family Robinson type movie. It's a story about a family learning to survive outside the realms of normal life. We see them struggle and we see them survive.

This is a movie that while it's like the Swiss Family Robinson, its not completly like them. The movie is about half as good but...

A Kid's Review
The Adventures of The Wilderness Family is in my opinion a good movie for people of any age and I was shocked at the review from the school teacher who showed this movie to her students and then went on and on through out the whole movie about howmch she hateed the movie and hw stupid it was, etc. I mean couldn't she just have let them enjoy the movie without being a party pooper. If one of my teachers showed us a movie and then kept bashing it I would have been really annoyed! I say ignore gloomy gusses like that and just enjoy this movie for what it is, a light hearted fluffy movie that is just fun to watch!

4.0 out of 5 stars A family classic, January 12, 2005
An eco-friendly husband (Robert Logan) and wife (Susan Damante-Shaw) move their family from the city to a remote cabin in the wilderness where they encounter a variety of forest wildlife, including harmless deer and harmful bears. There are some hair-raising fight scenes between the faithful family dog and a bristling bruin. The Further Adventures of the Wilderness Family followed in 1978.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a wonderful, family film., April 26, 1999

There are so few films that a family can sit and watch together. This is one of them. It has enough action/adventure to keep the guys entertained and enough sensitivity for the ladies! It has kids and animals. What more could you want?

All Robert F. Logan outdoor adventure movies are great! They are very realistic, except for maybe being chased by a big grizzly in most of the movies. Of course, that, among other scenes, add humor and excitement. The scenery is always beautiful, and the characters react to most problems the way every-day folk would--first with screams and panic, and as life goes on, with knowledge, expertise and good sense. I wish these films (Across the the Great Divide, Adventures of the Wilderness Family series, Mountain Family Robinson, among others) were more widely seen and screened.

This is one of the few films our whole family (7 in all) has enjoyed together. There was nothing offensive about it and the plot was interesting. If you want a wholesome family film this is a good one.

This is a good family video! It gets harder and harder to find
a good family movie that is NOT animated. My kids just love this
movie.

4.0 out of 5 stars I loved it as a kid...so I bought it for mine!!, February 16, 2003

"We are a wilderness family..." Ever since the first time I watched this movie as a kid I have wanted to move to the mountains and live off of the land!!

This movie is a good wholesome family movie. It was filmed in the late 70's/early 80's and you can really tell. Plus, the acting gets pretty stiff in numerous places and some of the story lines are a bit forced. BUT...it is still fun to watch all these years later.

I have gotten so tired of all the junk that is out there for kids (???) these days so when my girls aren't watching PBS I like for them to watch videos instead. This is one that stresses family values like love and team work. There is no "potty humor", no cartoon characters, and the language in entirely appropriate for everyone in the family.

GREAT movie if you want to limit your kids exposure to junkfood for the brain.

4.0 out of 5 stars I Liked This Movie!., October 14, 2005
A Kid's Review
I'm glad that this movie is on DVD. I first saw this movie I was little and I enjoyed it. There have been complaints made about this movie having an unrealistc view about wildlife and that it's too sugary sweet and that children will think that they can go up to real wildlife and play with them but as another reviewer said only not so bright people with reality problems would think you can go play with a bear in the real life. I liked this movie and I think it's just a very enjoyable movie that is good for the whole family and I highly recommend it! BTW; I agree with the reviewer who corrected the reviewer who said the family in this movie wasn't stranded in the wilderness. They weren't stranded but moved there fully knowing that life in a wilderness can be harsh at times especially in the long cold winters. They moved to the wilderness because they wanted to get away from city noise and traffic and because one of their children had really bad allergies that were getting worse because of smog. It was another Robert Logan movie called The Sea Gypsies that had him getting stranded in the wilderness. In that Movie Robert Logan played a man who was trying to sail around the world with his family only to get stranded on an Alaskan Island after they were shipwrecked.
