Adventures in the,
By DonB "Swampslogger" (Brewster, MA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Adventures in the wilderness; (Paperback)
This was one of the first books I read about the Adirondacks. It is a classic in my mind. A number of articles written about the adventures of a Boston clergyman's hunting and fishing trips to the mountains were gathered into a book. His rhapsodic descriptions of the area and the healthful benefits of the "balsamic air" caught the imagination of thousands who longed for a change from the crowded city. As a consequence there was a veritable stampede to the North Woods. Unfortunately there were no facilities to accommodate them and they were unprepared for the attacks of mosquitoes and other biting insects. So seriously disillusioned were they that they they wanted to lynch Murray
Nonetheless his accounts of various incidents are hilarious and entertaining. Anyone who enjoys the woods and camping will find this book great fun.Adventures in the wilderness; |
