1.0 out of 5 stars Adventus Warning !!!!!!, Buyer Beware !!!! September 13, 2011
I agree totally with the one review about very poor customer service, first they are very arrogant and assumed that everyone is a buffoon, next, the software is not as educational as they state, my daughter was easily bored and the keyboard was behind on almost all notes when she pressed the key. Next, their satisfaction guarantee is bogus because I tried to return the item, followed the instructions for return and when they recieved it at the return facilty , they tried to deduct a percentage off my return stating I had used packing tape that marred the keyboard box and what i would receive a portion of what they had to repackage the keyboard since the box is part of their product and was damaged. No wwhere on their site or in their return instruction did they say how to tape it or what color tape to use. As a added note they still after two weeks have not refunded my money. Their manager whom i called was very arrogant and really had no concern for me as a customer. I will never recommend this company or their product to anyone I know. Buyer Beware

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work half the time November 17, 2008
This product has caused nothing but frustration for us. I'm glad Amazon doesn't carry it. The only reason I'm leaving the review here is because Adventus wants you to contact them if you want to leave feedback on their site. I don't think they will allow a thumbs down review to be posted on thier site.

I'm a homeschooling mom to 6 children, ages 12 to 1 years of age. While we have room for a piano, I wasn't sure we wanted to deal with a real one in the house yet, maybe when they are older. So, for the time being, I thought that the Children's Music Journey and MIDI keyboard would be awesome.

The MIDI Keyboard is great, but the actual software doesn't work half the time. In my opinion, it was NOT worth the money.

Customer service from Adventus is not a pleasant experience. The person that helped us sounded bothered by us, and treated us like we were stupid. (I'm not that computer savy... but I do know about software)

3 of my friends tried the software on their computers and it was the same problem. Middle C doesn't work past lesson 1, practice 5. You can't advance to the next level until you complete lesson 5...which requires middle C! I was told twice by Adventus it's because we need to complete all the lessons prior to 5, and we did, time and time again. Adventus keeps telling us that, "sorry, don't know what to tell you." Not much help.

I recommend getting the MIDI keyboard, but finding a different music program.

1.0 out of 5 stars terrible program May 4, 2013
1) This cannot keep the attention of my 7-year-old's.

2) There is a delay between pressing a key and when you hear the sound. This is a quote from adventus' website:

"Why is there a delay between when I press a key on the keyboard, and when I hear the sound?

This problem can occur on some installations of Windows if you have selected 'Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth' as the MIDI Output device. GS Wavetable synthesis is built into Windows, and sometimes has a built-in latency between the key-press and the sound. You can resolve this problem by using a different MIDI Output device

-If you are using a keyboard that has speakers, you can select the keyboard or midi cable as the output.
-You can purchase a high-quality software synthesis such as Prodipe VE and select it as the MIDI output device."

a) The keyboard they recommend buying does NOT have speakers!
b) They recommend paying an extra $80 for more software.

3) The only good point was that we found a teacher who was excited that we have a midi piano already (although I wish we would've delayed and bought the one pianomarvel recommends). She suggested we subscribe to pianoMarvel, and this is an excellent program. My daughters actually fight over whose turn it is to practice. Pianomarvel is engaging and there is no nonsense in the program, unlike CMJ. I'm so sorry I wasted so much money on Children's Music Journey.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not engaging and buggy. November 17, 2012
By vdiddy
This program is supposed to be suitable for preschoolers however it is too dull to engage a preschooler. An early childhood educator must not have been consulted in the making of this product. Most notable is the use of rigid and monotone voices for instruction. I also experienced many crashes and lock-ups using this product.

I happened to look at this amazon page to see if anyone said which software they used after their student finished the Children's Music Journey CD-Roms and I saw the poor review. We haven't had the first problem! Several moms in our homeschool group use it as well and think it's fantastic. I will say that for some reason the software stops working if the child waits a long time - like several minutes - to use it. In this case, we simply exited and re-started the software and had no problem. My son quickly learned not to get distracted or the software would "time out" (the software wouldn't acknowledge the keyboard being played).

Whoever wrote this software really loves kids and understands them. It gently increases their skill level by isolating skills (very Montessori). The games work on one skill while the lessons work on another. They eventually incorporate what has been practiced in the games. Brilliant! It give lots of encouragement during each session. It even teaches music history and music appreciation as well. (My Son loves his "teachers", namely Mr. Tchaikovsky, Mr. Bach, etc.)

He is almost finished with Music Journey 2 and can't wait to start 3. My only problem? What could I possibly follow it with that would be half as good as this program?
