Adversity is my Angel: The Life and Career of Raul H. Castro, November 8, 2009
This review is from: Adversity Is My Angel: The Life and Career of Raul H. Castro (Paperback)
I found this book to be a very important part of history. It shows the story of the determination of a man, who was born in a different country but moved here with his family, only to rise from poverty and live the American dream. I would of loved to hear more details about his childhood and his family what became of all of them. Never the less, this man has something to be proud of and more people should read this book. It is an important of the Hispanic/American history.

See..! It Could Be Done..!, December 24, 2011
This review is from: Adversity Is My Angel: The Life and Career of Raul H. Castro (Paperback)
Today is Dec 24, 2011, and I'm having my coffee and checking out an old (Feb 1975) issue of Arizona Highways magazine before taking it to the Goodwill. The editorial page had a photo of a nice looking Mexican man with a pleasant smile. I decided to read the information about Raul H. Castro, "The New Governor of Arizona." To say the least, what a story! I then did a computer search and came up with this book. Raul's story is filled with all those good and bad events about coming to America in the "old days", and none of the belly-aching we hear so much of these days. What floored me was, this man just set his mind to all things positive, and moved on wiith his life. And you know what? Rual is still alive and at 95 years, is the oldest living governor. Merry Christmas Raul, and God's blessing on you..!! Oh, was the book any good? Sure it was, and when the movie is made, let's have Banderias play the part..!!

Adversity is My Angel, June 28, 2011
This review is from: Adversity Is My Angel: The Life and Career of Raul H. Castro (Paperback)
From his days as a barefoot Mexican kid near Douglas, AZ to becoming a varsity athlete in high school and college and then to prominence in the world of law and politics, this history of Raul H. Castro's matriculation is an inspiration to all who do not yet comprehend the value of adversity and occasional failure. On his way to fame, Castro was an undefeated collegiate boxer and professional pugilist who was forced to ride the rails and do 'wetback' field labor even after earning a college degree from Northern Arizona State College (now NAU). Eventually becoming a southern Arizona County Attorney and Judge gave him the prominence to earn the Governorship of Arizona. He later served in several Ambassador's posts, finally retiring to Nogales on the U.S.-Mexico border. His story has humor, pathos, and testosterone. Every American school child should be treated to his wisdom. Today, just past his 95th birthday, Governor Castro is clear headed and eloquent in his beliefs.
