2.0 out of 5 stars Art Without Color, June 19, 2000
This review is from: Advertising Art in the Art Deco Style (Pict. Archive S) (Paperback)
The lover of art deco will certainly love this book for its content. A major drawback is that there are very few color illustrations. The cover boasts that there are 22 illustrations in full color (out of 363 total). However, this amounts to only 14 pages of color illustrations. Color is vital to art deco and to under represent it is a fatal flaw.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good starting point, June 24, 2001
This review is from: Advertising Art in the Art Deco Style (Pict. Archive S) (Paperback)
At first this looks like a coffee table book, all pictures and no words. Then you may say there is not enough color. Come on what so you expect for the price?

On closer examination you find it is a great collection of Art Deco Style Advertising art (selected by Theodore Menten.) He made a good choice from several magazines and books, which appeared, between 1924 and 1940. This is a good starting point to know more about advertising art of that era. There is an index for artists for further investigation. Later you can really use this book for a coffee table.

Nice things about this book are the pictures and "A Dover edition is designed for years of use!" The paper will not yellow with age.
