5.0 out of 5 stars Give me more stars, July 30, 2007

Whatever the stars are available for rating - they are not enough for the book. Deep, thoughtful, unbiased and with good humor. After being 15 years in advertising I've never thought that an outsider can have such an accurate view of our real processes and thinking. Author takes all the pains in studying the context of the ads (just browse the references - I've spent the whole day just making notes on them). To sum up: in my opinion Schudson to advertising is what Jaques Le Goff is to the Medieval History. If you rely on the "everyone knows that" type of knowledge - you'll have a lot of surprises.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a fundamental text, September 9, 2009
This review is from: Advertising, The Uneasy Persuasion (Paperback)
Schudson's explanation of the history of cigarette smoking by women is essential reading for anyone who wants to understand America, advertising, feminism, etc. The quality of his arguments is superb, in this case study and throughout the book.
