5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this right now! You won't be sorry., June 18, 2005

This album is one of the most welcome surprises I've had in a very long time. It's truly a breath of fresh air, and my 2nd favorite album of 2005 so far (right behind the new Sufjan Stevens album).

At any rate... this CD takes you on a grand journey, that goes all over the place, yet somehow always manages to stay comfortably familiar. Standout tracks include "Living On The Outside Of Your Skin", "Transistor Radio", "Rockwell", and the hidden bonus track at the end, "Bobby's Spacesuit"

Heartfelt lyrics/vocals and playful creativity abound... you'll find yourself getting sucked into this record further and further with every listen. I honestly can't reccomend this album enough. It's probably Cloud Cult's best to date (although "They Live On The Sun" is also a masterpiece).

My only complaint with this record is the three tracks full of blank noise towards the end of the album... but that problem can easily be alleviated if you put this on your iPod... just delete tracks 20, 22, and 24.

5.0 out of 5 stars Indiecredible!, July 4, 2005
This review is from: Advice From the Happy Hippopotamus (Audio CD)
Diverse, clever, smart, charming and complex are just a few words that can barely describe this amazing album. Their music exhibits everything I love about indie rock. Listen to the samples and you'll get an idea of what I'm talking about. This is undoubtedly one of my favorite albums of the year!!!!!!!!

How to describe this album? Hmmm.... If you like the Arcade fire, Sunny DaY, Broken Social Scene, Radiohead etc etc, you need to buy this album.

It amazes me that CC does not get more recognition, it is the perfect mix between melodic instrumentation and full out rock with intelligent lyrics to boot.

I bought this album not really knowing what to expect but trust me, if you like any of the aforementioned bands you wont be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't Stop Listening, August 22, 2008

I love this disc. It seems very childlike or often like they are speaking to children, I'm not sure, but at the same time examining life and death. I really like Feel Good Ghosts (their latest) but I've had this one at the office and now in my car (I have a single disc player in the car) and keep going through it again. There seem to be many influences or similar artists: Modest Mouse, Arcade Fire, Polyphonic Spree (except I hate PS and love Cloud Cult, so whatever) and even a Jethro Tull flute pops up. Check these guys out if you don't know them. There is so much heart and usually an underlying optimism. Buy this disc if you do know them but haven't gotten to this one. Take care.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully, Hauntingly sad, April 18, 2009

Wow. I've had this album for about 2 years now, it just gets better and better. Every once in a while I'll play it. It amazes me the threads that seem to weave through it. It's definitely an ALBUM, as opposed to a collection of singles. I like virtually every song on the album, but i think one of the most important is the "Light at the end of the Tunnel" which is just audio of someone recounting their near death experience. How true is it, no matter how many good things we've done doesn't look like much when analyzed over our lives. That track really stirs me. All of the others are fantastic as well, I'd say there isn't a bad one in the bunch, save for "Moving to Canada" which just isn't my cup of tea. I did have to listen 2 or 3 times before it really all made sense and came together for me, so it's not an "easy" album, but sometimes the more difficult music is the stuff that really lasts.
Thank you Cloud Cult, what a wonderful gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars 2 Words..., September 26, 2006
This review is from: Advice From the Happy Hippopotamus (Audio CD)
ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS

No one can describe this unbelievable album with words. By far, this is the best album I have come across since Damien Rice's "O"

Buy now or forever hold onto....umm....all your music that doesn't compare to this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantasic band, fantastic album, November 2, 2008
I discovered this band through a website called the sneeze. I didn't think much of what I heard at first, but they make a sound that gets stuck deep inside you and resonates with the child that's still trapped in there. The words are smart, some of the smartest I have come across in a very long time. I really love this band, I love this music. It is light yet with depth, fun yet dark, rich yet simple. You just have to sit back, give it a chance and before you know it, it becomes crack for your soul.
