Book Description

0925065609 978-0925065605 January 1, 2002
This groundbreaking book illustrates how the internet and other electronic resources are currently affecting social work practice. The authors show how technology affects social work practice directly through new methods and indirectly by affecting the communities that practitioners serve. It provides channels for e-advocacy as well as a thorough exploration of the major theoretical, practice, and research perspectives that inform electronic activism. This book solidly integrates new on-line advocacy skills with traditional methods and unites research on internet communities with macro social work theory.

5.0 out of 5 stars At last! Internet Advocacy Revealed, January 6, 2003
By
Havi Echenberg (Ottawa, Ontario Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Advocacy, Activism, and the Internet: Community Organization and Social Policy (Paperback)
Despite its social work bent, this book is a winner for everyone interesting in using the 'Net to influence public opinion and/or public policy. It combines case examples, theory, and enthusiasm to describe, analyze and prescribe (in limited quantity) how those interested in social change can harness the power of 'Net to accomplish their goals. As the first work of its kind, the book captures a lot of wisdom, experience and analysis about how and why the 'Net is an appropriate vehicle, its limitations, and its power in advocating for social change. Practitioners and scholars will find this book extremely useful.
