Alright, to be quite honest, I didn't like their last album as much as I wanted to...but that didn't stop me from appreciating their work and effort. Years later, I'm greeted with this great sound of groovy death metal.. The sound overall is tighter, the creativity/musicianship is at an all time high, and that blasphemous lyrical content Aeon is known for is also present... which means you're gonna be dealing with some pretty intense death metal.

Highly recommended for Aeon fans and all fans of death metal. This album is superb. Favorite track has to be "Still they pray."

Awesome album. Very brutal and dark. The last release disappointed me. This time i cant expect better. The song Glowing Hate just blows me away.

With a name like "Aeons Black," one might be tempted to think that this album is of the black metal variety. And since the band who released said record stems from Sweden, one might also wonder if this group plays music of the melodic death variety. But both of these assumptions would be vastly incorrect, because Aeon are actually pure, unadulterated death metal the way it should be played: Brutal, technical, and with melody as an afterthought. And yes, there is some truth in the Alex Webster (of Cannibal Corpse fame) statement in that they are infectiousy catchy, too. So thus, on the whole "A.B." lands somewhere between Morbid Angel, Deicide, Vader, Origin, and the aforementioned C.C..

There are handful of experimental cuts sprinkled intermittently into the mix throughout this 2012 effort, thus making it the band's most varied and epic affair to date. But most of the time, frontman Tommy Dahlstrom and Co. just stick to what they know best: Churning out scalding death metal sludge at breakneck speeds. The drumming is tight and all-around impressive this time around, but it is actually the guitars that dominate the maelstrom most of the time. Zeb Nilsson and Daniel Dlimi turn out some of the absolute best and most memorable (and mosh pit-ready) guitar licks this side of Deicide's "To Hell With God."

The band steamrolls out of the gate with tires squealing and all guns blazing, as "Still They Pray" is a festival of monstrous, churning riffage, brutal drum blasts, and furiously visceral, Deicide-styled vo-kills.

Okay, so maybe it's not *that* great. But this is a really awesome release. I would say it's one of Aeon's best albums. You have the usual Aeon sound, that same lyrical theme as well, with a song to song beating of Aeonic proportions. The production quality is excellent. The songs careen you through heavy riffs and grooves, satisfying all your death metal needs. My favorite is 'Sacrificed.' That song makes you want to go break-neck berserker. And this album is FULL - no little 8 or 9 track release, but almost an hour over 15 awesome songs.

Those who are fans of Aeon will most certainly like or love it. Those who tired of Aeon's sound 3 or 4 albums ago may view it a little more critically. But in my opinion, this album belongs in any death metal collection and it represents Aeon at their peak. Check out the sound clips and see what you think - they represent the album well.

This album is a death metal masterpiece!!! It is, undoubtedly, my favorite album. Not just by Aeon: my favorite album......period. If you have an interest in death metal, or if you're a long time listener, this album won't disappoint. Every song pummels you with awesome heaviness. Lyrically and musically, it's perfect.
