Good for trapeze and web, I suppose,

This review is from: Aerial Circus Training and Safety Manual (Spiral-bound)
I purchased this book hoping to find some guidance on aerial tissu. Unfortunately, almost the entire book is focused on static trapeze and spanish web. I like these arts, but they are not the one I am trying to practice. I feel the copy about the book misled me as to what it covers. This would be a great book if you want to learn either of those techniques, but the other arts mentioned on the jacket (corde lisse, tissu, lira, etc) are each given about 10 pages of coverage.
I would love if the authors would write additional manuals on these other subjects. While this book is good, it is not a comprehensive aerial circus manual by any stretch of the imagination.

Simply put:
DO buy this book for information on Trapeze or Spanish Web (rope). DO NOT buy this book for information on Tissu (silks, ribbon), Lyra (aerial hoop), aerial straps, or any other aerial art which is not Trapeze or Spanish Web. Echoing a previous review, I just want to warn prospective buyers that if they are looking for instruction on apparatus other than trapeze and Spanish web/rope this book won't be of much use. I wish I could give it two ratings, one for the apparatus it covers, for which it is excellent and another for those it claims to cover, but does not.

Aerial Circus Training and Safety Manual,
This review is from: Aerial Circus Training and Safety Manual (Spiral-bound)
This book is fantastic for anyone looking for a formal basis for learning or training aerial arts. It covers tricks from basic to more advanced and includes detailed notes for trainers and spotters. There is a strong focus on correct technique and safety. It exceeded my expectations.

Don't buy this book from Amazon, it as listed as hundreds of dollars where as you can get it for about $50 other places on the web. These prices are absurd.

Aerial Circus Training and Safety manual is a good training aid for use with one on one or group classes. The Black and white pictures help with getting into the right position. Not too wordy it aids in perfecting new skills and Beginners moves.

Best photo-instruction manual for dance trapeze,
By Renee "Renee360" (Atlanta, GA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Aerial Circus Training and Safety Manual (Spiral-bound)
This is a great manul for dance trapeze. I am taking lessons with a company besides the one who published the book. The terminology is different, but the photos make remembering the moves much easier for me. The material in the book is for beginners; I've learned it all, except for some of the balances, in six months of classes. Depending on where you take classes, you may blow right through the book. I suggest getting it during your first series of classes, before you advance beyond the book's content.
Other content in the book includes spanish web, rings, fabrics, lyra and tightwire. The spanish web and rings sections are flushed out fairly well. However, there are only five fabric moves. The lyra and tighwire sections are quite small, too. |
