5.0 out of 5 stars wings of fire, January 2, 2009

This review is from: Aerial Firefighting (Hardcover)
This is just the book for people who love planes, but also firefighting to boot.Lots of information and lots of pictures of aerial firefighting from around the world. What is that red goo they drop on fires? You will find out what it is and how it works. You will see how these aircrew live and work, and(sadly)die, be they tanker crews, helitak teams, smoke jumpers, and spotters, not just in America, but all over the world, from Russia to Korea and all points in between. You will also learn of the danger these crews face and why bigger, faster, high tech jets may look good on TV,but may be a bad idea in reality when it comes to fire fighting, and why smaller may be better. You will also learn that these crews and their planes may be flying into uncertain times. Everyone wants them around, but no one wants to pay to keep them going. This is a wonderful book for 'wing nuts'and 'fire fanatics'. The book was translated from German, so some of the sentance structure and phrases are a bit off..but it is still very readable. Also a picture of a tanker swooping over a deep canyon is captioned as being in Florida..(?)But overall a great book.

This review is from: Aerial Firefighting (Hardcover)
I JUST VIEWED A COPY OF THIS BOOK AND FOUND IT TO BE BOTH INFORMATIVE AND VISUALLY INSPIRING. IT REFLECTS THE ROMANCE OF AERIAL FIREFIGHTING AND THE COURAGE OF THE MEN AND WOMEN WHO ARE PART OF THE TEAM OF FIREFIGHTERS WHO PROTECT ARE NATIONAL FORESTS, PARKS AND COMMUNITIES.
