5.0 out of 5 stars Surprise...but this is a great product!, October 11, 2003
By
This review is from: AeroBed Inflatable Bed, Twin (Kitchen)
I'd managed to avoid using the two "air mattresses" my mother keeps on hand for visitors...until last night. However, I was more than mildly surprised when my, "non-mechanical" daughter had her Aero Bed inflated and made in less than 5 minutes, which is no exaggeration! I took a bit longer as I was reading the instructions. Inflation could not be simpler: plug it in, make sure the valve on the other end is closed and push the button for about a minute. Voila...now make your bed.

Comfortable? Yes. We both slept very well, and there was no need to "top off" either of the two the mattress during the night as they stayed comfortably firm and appear to be very well made.

I figured it must be difficult getting the mattresses rolled up to fit in the carry bags...but again, it couldn't have been easier. Just open the valve to deflate, then fold the left and right sides into the middle. Roll up the mattress using the pump as your "core." Once rolled, close the valve, and put it back in the bag. This is so easy a child can do it...as my 11 year old daughter proved.

BTW - the electric cord with the power button is quite long - probably 10~12 feet - so you don't have to be close to an outlet. I also noticed a patch kit - just in case.

The Aero Bed worked great, and gave a good night's sleep. I'll be buying one of more of these before long. They'll be perfect for sleep-overs. It's a pleasure to write a 5 star review about something which has been well designed and well made - and I was initially a skeptic.

3.0 out of 5 stars Five Leaks in Five Weeks, January 29, 2006
By
The bed does exactly as it claims. It is easy to set up, easy to take down, the pump fills it with air in a minute, and so on.

However, it keeps springing leaks. I have had mine for 5 weeks, and today I repaired the fifth leak. Now, repairing leaks is not all that hard, but it is an on-going hassle.

For those with trouble repairing the leak, here's the plan.

1) Fill the bed VERY FULL. If you don't fill it full enough, you won't find the leak.

2) Put your hand over each of the squares one at a time and press firmly. It might take you a few minutes to cover the entire bed.

3) You will find the leak because it will hiss and blow air against your hand.

Once you find the leak, just follow the repair directions.

However, I have now used up all of the special glue that came with the bed. I don't know enough about glue to know whether I can use Crazy Glue or Super Glue or Elmer's Glue or some other glue, or whether such glues will ruin the bed. I keep looking for additional repair kits, and I can't seem to find one. When I Google the Aerobed Vinyl Repair Kit, I get a lot of hits, but when I look at those sites, they all just say that additional kits can be purchased, but no one actually seems to sell the kit.

I tried the Aerobed web site (www.thinkaero.com) but the web site is down and it merely gives a customer service phone number. When I call Aerobed customer service, I get a recording that refers me back to the web site.

3.0 out of 5 stars The old version is more comfortable, October 19, 2005
By
TCL (Guilford, CT USA) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
This review is from: AeroBed Inflatable Bed, Twin (Kitchen)
Having had the old version (the one w/ the pump on the outside) for 8 years, I finally decided to buy the new one that had the pump inside the mattress.

The new pump being inside made it so much easier to fold the mattress after use, and to put sheets on it. It has a better gasket that closes with a audible snap. However, the PVC material used to make the matress feels thinner and lighter in weight than the older version. The new mattress is also 1 inch shorter off the floor than the older version.

The older one seems sturdier than the newer one. My old one has been used as a box spring, out camping, in dorms and cabins for over 8 yrs.

They do not patch well. My older one finally got a pinpoint puncture that has been impossible to patch, hence the purchase of the new one.

Conclusion: I wish they still made the older one w/ the original dimensions and original PVC material and added improvements to the gasket and the pump placement.
