5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value
Its rare to find a flourescent that will work in a dimmable fixture. These were a great price, work great, and have much brighter light than most flourescent bults..

3.0 out of 5 stars Dimmable yes, but barely
While it is nice to have a dimmable CFL, the bulb does not seem to dim unless it is dimmed to 50% or less. So if you have a regular bulb dimmed to 60% and one of these CFL bulbs dimmed to 60%, the CFL bulb will be extremely brighter. I would not buy these bulbs again.

1.0 out of 5 stars What's with the ridiculous shipping price on cfls from this seller (US Fairytailes)?, July 14, 2009

I have no review on the item itself but the seller is charging an absolutely ridiculous shipping charge. The price of the item itself appears quite reasonable until one sees how much they are charging to ship. It's over $18 for this item and over $55 for another box of bulbs. How are they shipping it - horse & buggy? I will never give business to a business that operates in this manner and Amazon should strongly consider pulling them as a seller.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor life, December 6, 2009

I've tried these bulbs with 2 different brands of dimmer switches, but out of 8 bulbs, 2 failed within a day, and 2 more within a week. The manufacturer has no online support, nor online contact information. No contact info on the bulbs either. Save your empty box for the customer service phone number. When you call, it's an answering machine, and you'll get no callback. The seller isn't set up for handling DoA refunds, so you will need to be persistent.

For the ones that did not fail, you can hear the AC buz of the step-up transformer at max power if you're very close. If you turn it down to low, these are fairly loud. Not a major issue, but just for complete review.

When full bright, the light color is good.

Overall, I recommend against ULA bulbs due to poor product.

3.0 out of 5 stars What's with the shipping from US Fairytales?, November 6, 2009

I wanted these to be worth it, and maybe they are, BUT... Ok, I read the other reviews and as I suspected, they don't dim very well. They don't get as dim as I would like and they often flicker in a very annoying manner. This flickering also often (but not always) interferes with the audio portion of my broadcast HDTV reception. On one evening the flickering turned into a rhythmic off/on/off/on display that went on for several minutes until I just turned them off (I have them in 3 sconces in my living room).

But the really objectionable thing here was what US Fairytales charged for shipping! Almost as much as the bulbs themselves cost! I decided that it was still the best deal out there, so I bought them anyway. Had they worked a little better I might not complain, but when these wear out I'm moving to LEDs no matter what they cost. I just don't think the technology is there for dimmable CFLs, and I've seen the LEDs and they WORK!

1.0 out of 5 stars Awful, February 3, 2011

These have a short life. They were replacing Philips dimmable CFL Earthlights on the same fixture which had lasted about 4 years. These died within months in the same fixture with the same dimmer switch and same usage pattern.

I thought it was just one or two bad ones at first, but they all were dead in under six months....

Not worth the hassle and cost.....

These bulbs were a disappointment. They dim fine, but the promised savings are offset by poor life. They lasted only a year or so before failing.

These are a no-name 'dimmable' CFL sold in both 23 & 15 watt sizes. I have no fewer than 40 recessed lights throughout my living/kitchen/pool table rooms and the area is very open, so you have to use the same lights throughout or it would look funny- I found after installing these, I was pretty happy with the 'dim-ability' of the lights, no flicker at all which can be really annoying, and they also have another feature that is a must with CFL's and something I have come to really like about these particular bulbs is they fire on at 85% verses at 20% (assuming set to ON at 100%) so you don't have to wait for the CFL's to warm up and brighten up the room before entering which is very annoying. The 20-30 seconds it takes some CFL's to do their thing (so you can see) makes them very undesirable to use in key areas like front entry areas, hall ways, or outside on patio's, etc...For some reason I have had very good luck with this particlar brand, have not replaced 1 yet due to burnout and they have been installed for about 12 months. So quick recap: No humming/noise, Dimmable to a usable level (15% is lowest), no flicker at all, and like 85% instant on (no delay). The only negative thing i could say about these lights, is my photo's turn out WAY to warm and do create weird color tones when shooting inside with my DSLR. But I think most fluorescent lights have this type of effect when they are your main light source. Also, since replacing all of those 65 watt incandessant lights, I have noticed a drop in the overall household power consumption, as my bill seems a little less but the bigger difference is the reduction in heat created by these CFL as compared to the incandessant bulbs...really saves me on the A/C (in CA).,..can leave these on for extended periods of time with very little impact on room temperature which used to be a constant battle. And if you think the 23's are too bright to start with, just go with the 15 watt bulbs, which better match the output of the 65 watt bulbs they did replace.... more than enough light..I give this product a 9.5/10
