AeroBed makes a wonderful beach mat. We use it regularly in Florida in winter: it is great because it keeps us from sitting or lying on the cold sand. Best of all, it does not attract sand and can be easily shaken clean.

As a beach or camp mat, it needs to be about 3 or 4 inches wider. Arms and legs tend to flop over the edges. The carrying case also needs to have a larger diameter. It is a chore to roll the mat up tighly enough to fit!

In all, this is a high quality, durable product. We love it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, large mat, May 22, 2010
This review is from: AeroBed Extreme Ultra Light Self-Inflating Camp Mat (Kitchen)
If you want a full-body pad, this one is fine. It rolls up reasonably small in diameter, though it is wide for a backpacker since it doesn't fold in half longwise. The other day I strapped it to my pack under the sleeping bag compartment and it worked fine. It does inflate quite a bit by itself, though I found it useful to blow some more air into it so it would hold my 225 lb body off the floor. Compared to more compact pads I've used this one was certainly more comfortable. It's hard to roll the air out of it. Try this: open the vent, fold it like a blanket about every foot and push out the air. Once it's all folded, close the vent and unfold it. Now it's quite flat and easier to roll tightly. (Don't store it rolled up or it's likely to lose some resiliency. Find a place to store it at full size.)
