Not all seeds will grow on these., January 27, 2010
This review is from: AeroGarden VeggiePro Indoor Gardening System (Lawn & Patio)
I bought the $200 large size that comes with the herbs, that one grew great. Did we have much use for the herbs? No, it grew fast, when we need to make a large dish, it wasn't enough, you can't pull off everything or you will kill it. But when it's not being used daily, then it just dries up and dies when the leaves get close to the bulb. None-the-less, it was fun to watch it grow, and just occasionally using it on a dish, just makes the dish taste better because I grew it, I cooked it, now I can eat it. Good feeling.
So why the 2 star deduction? Well, after the 1st batch of herbs, got the tomato seeds for xmas. out of the 3 seed pods, 0 grew. Okay, that didn't discourage me, I thought I messed up somewhere. Got another set of seeds mixed Romaine. Out of 6 pods, 2 never came out, of the 4 that did, the leaves are so wimpy, it's like leaving lettuce out on the counter for a week soft. So, another batch of failure. By now, I think this is only good for small items like herbs and maybe flowers.
It's a cool gadget to use one time, if you are trying to save $ or actually treating this as a garden that you plan to really use for cooking, it's not a good choice. Considering the energy cost, the high cost of light bulb, adding water on a daily basis ( once the plants get big, you need to refill every day ), it's really not worth the hassel.

Grows herbs nicely!, February 12, 2010
This review is from: AeroGarden VeggiePro Indoor Gardening System (Lawn & Patio)
I couldn't resist buying this item when it was on a Lightning Deal for $120. I've now had this AeroGarden with the herb kit planted for two weeks. All 6 pods have sprouted and are growing nicely. It's been very fun to watch, and the maintenance involved is minimal. Just need to add some water every few days and every 2 weeks add nutrient tablets that come with the herb kit.
Some people have complained about the noise, but it hasn't bothered me at all. It's very quiet - much quieter than I expected. The lights, on the other hand, are extremely bright. I have it set up in the kitchen, so it doesn't bother me, but in the bedroom or the living room it would be another story. I definitely wouldn't recommend this for someone living in a studio apartment.
All in all this was a very worthwhile purchase for me. I am thinking of getting another one to grow salad greens. :-)

Grows Like Crazy But Few Tomatoes, May 22, 2010
This review is from: AeroGarden VeggiePro Indoor Gardening System (Lawn & Patio)
I bought my aero garden back in January 2010 and it is now May 2010. My tomato plants did both sprout (though after 2 months...but my house was right at the bottom of the listed 'ideal temperature' in the manual). They continue to grow to this day, but so far even with me hand pollinating all the flowers I see at least once a day per the instructions, only two tomatoes have grown (and both of them started growing about 2 months ago and still are green and small). I'm assuming I just had the misfortune of receiving a bad batch of fertilizer or something since many others have stated having bumper crops of tomatoes. I did buy a separate garden green's kit, so I guess I'll chop down my tomato 'trees' and try my hand with them and hope for better results.
Also, just as a warning...the manual does say the lights need to be replaced every six months of use as they start to lose effeciency. The lights run around $20 each and it requires three of them.
