PODS do not fit every type of Aerogarden!!,
By New Bride "trsgirl" (Cleveland, OH USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: AeroGarden 6-Pod Seed Kit (Lawn & Patio)
EVERYBODY!!
When you get replacement seed pods, the ones made for a 6-pod unit do not fit in the 7-pod Classic. So you will end up modifying them or buying rock wool, or grow sponges, and removing the seed. I know it says what type Aerogarden they go with right in the title, but who knew they'd make the pods so many different sizes? So watch which Aerogarden the seed pods are made for. The garden itself is great, if you can keep your cats from eating it all!

Descendant of Jack's Bean Stalk,
This review is from: AeroGarden 800521-0200 6-Pod Seed Kit, Green Beans (Lawn & Patio)
The beans sprouted and grew, and grew, and grew. Unfortunately, the arm of the grow lamp does not extend high enough to accommodate the rapidly growing plants and before I knew it, the flower buds and top leaves were burned by the heat of the bulbs. I tried keeping the tops cut down to encourage growth below, but within two or three days, they would be right back at the top of the lamp, and there would be a multitude of dried flower buds all over the floor. I finally threw in the towel and threw them out since its now to cold to transplant them outdoors.
The kit comes with some type of flexible wires that are supposed to support the beans, but they don't work that well because it's difficult to anchor them securely inside the grow sponges, and the plants aren't actually attached to the wires, they just sort of sit in the middle of them. In addition to that, the supports aren't long enough to be of any real use. I resorted to staking mine with long bamboo skewers and velcro plant strips. I had planted green beans before using my own seeds and Gro Sponges. They didn't grow as tall as the ones in this kit, but they produced a steady crop of beans. My husband bought this seed kit for me not remembering that I was using my own seeds and supplies, so I used it rather than have him return it. This kit would be better suited for the Aerogarden that has the gro lamp that extends to twice the length of the standard Aerogarden, and after my experience with it, I wouldn't recommend it for standard Aerogarden users.

Does not fit a Classic 7-Pod Garden,
By TJW (New York) - See all my reviews
This review is from: AeroGarden 6-Pod Seed Kit (Lawn & Patio)
The product description says that 'this fits all 6-Pod Gardens'.
The pods do NOT fit a Classic 7-Pod Garden as the pods are too long to sit in the garden properly. I had thought that I would be able to use these 6 pods with a pod from another set but the number of pods is not the issue. It is my mistake (which is why I have not rated it 1-star) but why design pods and gardens that are not compatible across the range?? I'm hoping that other 7-Pod Garden owners will not waste their money. At the time of writing I can't find any 7-pod seed kits on Amazon but you can get them on the aerogarden website for the same price ($19.95) so I'll be going there for the time being.

Nothing beats a fresh salad that you grow yourself!,
By Julie (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: AeroGarden 6-Pod Seed Kit (Lawn & Patio)
I bought the romaine back in January and I'm back to order another. We are a family of 5 and this fed all of us as a dinner meal many, many times. Just grilled up some chicken, boiled some eggs and added the croutons. Plus putting several leaves on sandwiches and such. I used to buy a bag of romaine at the store paying around $3 per bag a couple times per week. I must say, using the aerogarden is a cost saver. The lettuce was crisp and tasted, well, like romaine.
My mother just came up from Florida, she didn't know anything about these. One night, we had salads and she asked if she needed to wash off the leaves...nope. She then asked what needs to be done....Nothing! No worrying about pesticides or anything. I placed my aerogarden in our laundry room which is somewhat cooler in there than the rest of the house. My only complaint is I wish I could grow cherry tomatoes at the same time I'm growing my lettuce.

Tasteless, rubbery greens,
This review is from: AeroGarden 800502-0200 6-Pod Seed Kit, Salad Greens (Lawn & Patio)
Of all of the aerogarden products, this was the biggest disappointment. While they grow abundantly, these greens have no flavor and wilt pathetically almost immediately after cutting. Texture was rubbery. Would not recommend these. Try the herbs.

First - I love my Aerogarden. I had wanted one for ages, so when I found a 3-pod clearance one in a local store I was happy. I grew the flowers and they bloomed their little hearts out. I liked the idea of growing herbs and veggies inside, away from the critters that steal food out of the garden.
I even bought a second unit - 6 pods - to grow herbs. And to reuse the 3-pod I bought the tomato seed set. Yes, I should have read the details of the description, so it's partly my responsibility, but... It says 6-pod seed kit. So I thought it would have 6 seed pods. Great - 3 for now and 3 for later. Wrong. There are 3 seed pods and 3 spacers. If I had realized that I would have looked more closely at the price and made a different selection. I didn't give 4 stars because I don't think the 3 pods is a good value for the price paid. Ignoring that - the seeds are growing happily in the 3-pod unit. They are only about 2 inches high so far, but they look healthy. Hopefully I will be harvesting cherry tomatoes in my kitchen soon.

Lots of herbs--but not for long,
By SuuSoprano "oldlady" (Winston-Salem, NC USA) - See all my reviews

I bought the 6-pod Aerogrow with gourmet herb seeds. Everything grew pretty well, except the chives, which they replaced but were still so thin they wouldn't be much use in cooking. They gave me an extra cilantro, which grew very well. The dill frequently dried out at the top because it was too close to the bulbs. Mint grew almost too fast to use. I used basil the most and it was excellent. I called Aerogrow when thyme and oregano stopped growing, and was told it was the end of the growing season, so, in other words, they expect you to purchase a new seed kit and nutrients every 4 months, an expensive way to get herbs.I am considering buying a salad greens set next, but I am not sure of the quality after reading some of these reviews. It is out of stock at Aerogrow--perhaps they're improving it. A fun hobby for a non-gardener, but not cheap.

REALLY expensive tomatoes!,

This review is from: AeroGarden 800501-0200 6-Pod Seed Kit, Cherry Tomato (Lawn & Patio)
My original review was one star and I said that I was very disappointed in a product made for a 6 pod AeroGarden, costing $15 that consisted of only 3 plants and 3 blanks! Now, after having invested $15 and a lot of time and energy, I'd give less than 1 star if I could!!! I followed the directions religiously only to have the three plants produce exactly 2 small cherry tomatoes before shriveling up and dying! At $7.50 each, these little tomatoes were a very real disappointment. And, yes, I gently brushed the tomato plants to pollinate them. All three got a couple of flowers, but only the 2 red cherry tomatoes actually produced. One tomato each. The AeroGarden was a gift and I was so excited to receive it and now all I feel is guilt that someone I love wasted all that money on an inferior product. I had the same dismal experience when I tried to grow the herbs that came with the original product - everything started out great, but one by one, each and every herb plant shriveled and died. I thought maybe it was me, so I cleaned the container till it was spotless, again following the directions, before "planting" the tomatoes. Same old, same old. Great start, lousy finish. So far the investment is over $125 and I've grown half a cup of basil and 2 small cherry tomatoes. Needless to say, I won't be planting anything else. I bought two violets and since I don't have any sunny place to put them indoors, I now have them sitting on the empty AeroGarden, under the lights. I figure I'll use the lights till they burn out and then just throw the unit away.
