My husband ordered this for me from my wish list. I had picked the space saver size because we didnt have much counter space left to spare after Christmas purchases of a Keurig and a Kitchenaid mixer.

When I recieved the order, I was surprised tht it was labeled as the Ultimate Kitchen Gardener instead of the Aerogarden. After some Googling, they're apparently both made my Aerogrow. They're pretty much identical except for the Aerogarden version lets you select whether you're growing herbs, tomatoes, lettuce, etc in your garden and it will adjust the feeding schedule as needed. Since I only intended to use this for herbs, it wasnt a big deal to me, but if you want that extra feature, you may want to spend a smidge more and go with the actual Aerogarden brand. Otherwise, Aerogarden 6 pod seed kits and parts for the garden are all interchangeable.

After I placed all the pods in their appropriate places (tall growing herbs in the back, medium growing herbs in the front and sides), and filled the resevoir with water and their nutrient tablets, I was done!

The light is very bright and will automatically turn on for 17 hours and shut off for 7. The schedule that I found worked best for me was for the light to come on around 9pm so that it would be one for most of the night and day while I was at work. Then, by the time I came home, the light would be off and I wouldnt be too disturbed by it.

The pump is constantly on, but it isnt very loud. After work, I usually flick the TV on for background noise so it cancels it out.

The basil sprouted in 2 days, chives in 4 days, cilantro in 5 days, mint in 5 days and dill in 6 days. The only one still left to sprout is the parsley which states that it takes 15-21 so we'll see what happens, but so far, it's been great!

I was afraid this might be a gimmick but I'm a convert now. My Aerogarden is of good quality, and all the plants sprouted promptly and are thriving. Minor drawbacks are that the unit hums quietly, and there is a slight chemical/greenhouse odor. I recommend the Master Gardener kit if you are interested in starting your own plants rather than the manufacturer's pre-seeded pods.

I do not have a green thumb but this device makes growing herbs easy! The directions explain very clearly how to set things up and as stated, within a few short days, I could see growth. It is such a pleasure to have fresh herbs during the long dreary winter with no need to buy overpriced herbs in the grocery store only to see them go to waste. The basil and parsley are by far the best out of my herbs. They grow fast and tall and replenish very quickly when I take some for my cooking. The dill and chives didn't work out so well....learning to prune these and keep them going may be a skill but I am so pleased with the other herbs I'm willing to keep giving this a shot. I definitely recommend this item!

I bought this for my sister and she is very happy with the ease of set up and the fresh salad makings and herb's that she gets from her new indoor garden. I loved putting a smile on her face!
