Rough, Tough, and Tumble,

Earlier this month we purchased 2 Coleman air mattresses from Target. After less than a few days of use, one of them sprang a leak around the clip designed to hold down the sheet (which we did not use). The other "worked", but needed refilling every night. Unacceptable if you ask me. Coleman did replace the leaking one, and once it arrived we returned both of them to Target for a refund.
I grew up with the Coleman brand of products as a kid, so I trusted them. But after this experience, and later reading dozens of reviews to the contrary, I now understand the Coleman of today is not my father's Coleman. I should have done my research first, but I naively trusted the strength of an old brand. So I embarked on an extensive research expedition. You see, I come from the breed of stock where when I buy something, I plan to pass it onto to my children's children. Okay, probably unrealistic, but a worthy goal nonetheless. The conclusion of my research resulted in what I consider the wise decision to invest in 3 of these for my 3 boys ages 10, 8, and 6. I say "invest" because these are NOT cheap, and after purchasing a total of 5 (I purchased 2 more later), this cost more than the entire tent - all to hold air. We took the boys camping last weekend and from the first time you unroll the air mattress you quickly appreciate that this is no ordinary air mattress. You know right away these will last a lifetime if properly cared for. We camped for 3 days, 2 nights - and the air mattresses never need refilling, nor did they feel different the last day compared to the first. Now that's what I'm talking about! Regarding their size, they definitely are a generous "twin". For home use I'm sure that's greatly appreciated. However, when camping in an 8-man tent, they take up quite a bit of room that you only have room for 5-men. So be careful and consider the size of your tent. The bags are relatively heavy, so not advisable for back camping. One feature I consider revolutionary is the fill valve - all you have to do is twist it to open or close. No fumbling removing the pump nozzle and quickly putting the plug in the hole before loosing air. Never again - and the feature works magnificently. Lastly, each mattress comes with a rechargeable air pump. The purchase price alone is worth the price of the air pump. It's quiet, powerful, and holds a great charge (we used one pump to fill 3 mattresses, then deflate all 3 of them 3 days later). You can recharge it with an AC adapter, or via your cigarette lighter in your car. The only option I wish Aerobed would offer is the ability to order this with/without an air pump - because I now have 5 air pumps! I may sell the extras on eBay. Yes, I now have 5. After our successful test run, I purchased 2 more for the wife and I. If this isn't testament to my belief in these air mattresses, I don't know what is. It is an investment, but one that I believe will replay year after year of leak-free camping. Lastly, and most importantly, these things are tough! Visit the Aerobed website and watch the promo video where they have a horse walking and trotting on these. I figured if full-grown horses can do this to a mattress, I knew they could handle my rough, tough, and tumble boys. If you're looking for an air mattress that I believe will last a very long time, handle anything thrown at it, and you can afford the extra room in a tent and have the money - I believe these are a wise investment.

Rest Assured,
This review is from: Aerobed Endura Twin Inflatable Bed (Kitchen)
Do your shopping: I found this bed (Aerobed Endura Twin) listed with several different prices. Best I found was roughly $100. Used it to camp in the back of a van for a week. Held up well and was very comfortable. The pump is fast acting and works with either auto 12 volt or home 120 ac. Very portable and heavy duty. Lots of width for one person!

Aerobed Endura Queen Inflatable Bed
It is superbly made, easy to inflate and deflate, quick to setup and, best of all, incredibly comfortable. When camping, the Endura bed is the next best thing to sleeping on a conventional mattress. Even with my wife and I on it, it was fully supportive the entire night and did not leak at all. An absolute must for car campers. The mattress is to cumbersome and heavy for backpack camping.

I am working in Afghanistan, and i am billeted by the US Army, and let me tell ya there mattress's are horrible. I bought this and had it shipped over by my wife, for some reason it wouldn't take the APO. This is an excellent mattress very heavy duty material, inflates very quickly and is very comfortable, the only complaint i have is,and there for the 4 stars, I like my mattress very firm and it wont hold the air at that firmness seems to seep out i cant find any leaks so far, so i just blow about 5 big breaths and its good for a week. I would definitely recommend this air mattress to any one and i have done so to fellow workers here in Afghan.....update I've had this mattress for several months now, and it is remarkably durable, i have taken it to several FOB's (forward operating bases) the latest one had a nail head sticking up about a 1\2 inch and i didnt notice (this was a hand made bunk out of wood) it for about 3 weeks, didnt puncture the material, this is one tough mattress, i highly recommend this one!!!

Strong, Durable, Comfortable (but charge the pump for 16 hours first!),

After spending several hours online researching air mattresses (a topic I previously knew nothing about.....other than they often leaked) I selected this one.
First off, Aerobed offers the best quality mattress. There are other vendors who sell less expensive matresses but the quality of their product was poor. Customer reviews were terrible. Secondly, I could see that in an air mattress, strength and durability was key. If the product leaked, you were sleeping on a vinyl pancake. You might as well save your money and sleep on the floor. Thirdly, I learned that it was best if the air pump was not permanently attached to the mattress. Customers complained that they could feel the pump even though the mattress was inflated. Although this mattress is designed to be used outdoors by hunting and sporting enthusiasts, it seemed to have the best combination of quality, durability, a removable pump and a very attractive price. The hunting motif on the surface was kind of 1950's macho cute like an old Boy Scout sleeping bag. I was going to cover it with a mattress pad and sheets anyway. One aspect that I did not take into consideration, however, was that the air pump, described as being a "handheld NiCad rechargeable pump" would require an extremely lengthy time attached to an electric outlet before it's first use. 16 hours. Also, the pump cannot be operated while attached to an electic outlet. OK, so that first night my guest slept on the sofa. Also, you need to completely discharge the battery before recharging. Just like cell phones of yore. I can well imagine getting halfway through an inflation and then, bam, no power. There you are waiting the 2 hours for the pump to recharge before you get your mattress into sleep shape. I guess that's when you tell ghost stories infront of the camp fire? Once charged up and ready to go, the pump was a champ. The valve on the mattress was quickly twisted open, the pump was easily inserted and inflated the mattress one two three. The instructions say that the mattress can not be overinflated, which is reassuring but I do remain a skeptic. Another thing to know is that the pump has two openings: one to inflate and the other to deflate. These are indicated by small raised letters molded into the plastic near each opening. Wear your reading glasses in good light in order to differentiate. I had to. So far the mattress has been inflated for over a week and it has not leaked one bit. (See update below). I do recommend using a mattress pad. My guest likes the mattress much much more than my sofa! UPDATE 3-13-2010: I have found that the mattress requires "topping off" with air about once a week as it does slowly deflate. Not sure where the leak is.....the valve or the mattress material. Also, after some chaos and drama caused by a friend who borrowed the mattress and who was evidently extremely unfamiliar with air pumps (and reading instructions it seems), it was discovered that not only will the air pump not work while it is plugged in to an electric socket, it will also not work if the electric charging cord is free of the wall socket but still attached to the pump. Once the cord was detached, the pump worked just fine.

I needed a comfortable bed for he cargo sleeping area of my 2006 Honda Element and the dimensions worked perfect. This bed is comfortable and is made of durable material which means, it holds its air all night long plus it can hold more air for firmness. The bed fits my Element with the tailgate closed (with front seats all the way forward and slight console overlap) or open with the tailgate cabana. It comes with the best cordless chargeable I have owned but I recommend a manual backup pump to carefully top off firmness and it's always good to have a manual backup when you are AC challenged.Coleman Large Dual Action Hand Pump

Best Air Bed I Have Found,
This review is from: Aerobed Endura Inflatable Bed (Kitchen)
I have not used this camping yet, but I have used it during our move. It is more comfortable than many hotel beds I have had to sleep on. It is great not having to fill this thing up every day. I put my down matress pad on and it is just like home. The other surprise, is how well it held up to a 6'4, 250 pound man and a real sized woman sleeping on it.

My husband is currently deployed to Afghanistan. The military doesn't really provide them with the greatest beds. In his barracks he had a plywood bed frame and in a matter of just a couple months went through two mattresses - the springs would poke him in the back so he wasn't sleeping. Given the job he does...he REALLY needs to be able to sleep at least a few hours when he can. So, I ordered him this bed. I have to say I was VERY impressed with shipping. I had it shipped directly to his APO address and it only took about 5 days from the day I ordered it, to when he recieved it. AMAZING!! My packages don't even get to him that fast - typically it takes around 10-14 days to get a package - WOW! He has now slept on it a few nights and he is very impressed. He said it seems to hold up well, it's comfortable and he has slept like a baby! I definitely recommend this bed! Amazing - definitely worth the dollars!
