3.0 out of 5 stars Comfortable
Bought this bed for my son who came home from college for the summer. He says it is comfortable, but needs air added every few days, thus the three stars. Pump which is included inflates it quickly, but as previous reviewer commented, buy an electric pump so you can re-inflate in the room where the bed is set up. Also, read in one review for an air mattress to use...

It is also nice because I can inflate my raft with the pump as well. I have taken this bed on many camping trips and it has never lost air and appears to be holding up great. The fact that it is a little higher than most beds is also a nice feature, it makes getting up out of bed a little easier in the morning. This is also just a great bed to have around the house if you have guests staying the night.

I read a previous review that stated the "coils" rusted on the bed but this is an inflatable bed and doesn't have metal coils or any metal anywhere for that matter. This is a great bed for the price and versatility.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bed for any occassion, December 1, 2009
I use this bed for company all the time and I have taken this bed camping a number of times. My favorite part of the bed is how easy it is to pack up, also love the extra light on the pump. I am a reader and I love being able to kick back and read a good book no matter where I am. I love the option of being able to plug in the pump or have it run off of batteries, it makes this bed very transportable.

I have this bed and I think it is great. It is easy to inflate and deflate, only takes a few minutes. It gets you off the ground and provides enough space to insulate you from the cold and keep you off the hard ground. The bed is easily cleaned of dirt and debris that gets in the tent and the pump that comes with it is great, it not only pumps up the mattress, it works as a flash light and the pump can be used to pump up other items that may need air while camping such as rubber boats etc. This is my third time using this bed and it holds air just great, after reading what the other reviewer wrote I am not sure if this is the exact bed she had because nowhere on this bed do I find any coils that can rust, not sure what she is talking about. I am very satisfied with my purchase, I like to camp but when it's time to hit the tent there is nothing wrong with a little comfort instead of cold hard ground to sleep on.

Also, read in one review for an air mattress to use silicon grease to get a good seal on gasket, but cannot find it anywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'd buy it again... probably 4.5 stars, January 2, 2011
This review is from: Aerobed Raised Explorer Bed with Battery-Powered Flashlight Pump, Queen (Kitchen)
I bought this airbed a year and a half ago. We've used it probably 20 times. I have 5 other aerobeds in various models and sizes. We also have a coleman twin and off brand queen. I often lent out my airbeds many times to friends that have overnight guests. This is one of the best aero's we have for the following reasons.
1) Size. It's a twin and I can take in pretty much anywhere. I refuse to sleep with someone else (husband included) in a queen. I would rather set up my aero and actually sleep.
2) I like the flocked covering. With other airbeds I've slept on, I wake up cold due to the air inside. If I think that might be the case, I cover the bottom with a mattress cover and then a blanket and then put on a fitted sheet.
3) I love that I can take it camping. It does take 8 C batteries and that's a pain. The pump is tricky--more later.
4) It holds air and you don't end up on the floor. I know a few reviews say they ended up on the floor...we have friend that is over 300lbs and still does fine on this mattress. I have never had a problem with that.
5) Material is heavier duty and durable. For the amount of times we've used it, and where-camping on rough ground, there isn't one leak.

Things to consider before buying-
-The pump takes 8 C sized batteries. I keep 16 on hand. The pump has a built in flashlight which is great but it often gets left on accidentally or bumped in the bag and then the pump is dead. Be sure to watch that. I take out the batteries after we've packed it up and store then for next time. That way I'm not spending $10 each time I need C sized batteries.
-The pump is tricky to use. There's a flap inside the mattress that helps closes off the mattress after filling it up but you have to time it right or you'll let out too much air and have to repump it. Not a 'big' deal but a hassle. I can cap it easily now that I've set it up many times.
-You will have to fill it every night or every other night depending on the person's weight and temperature outside. It's worth it to me because it's an airbed that works well.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad luck with air mattresses..., October 19, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Aerobed Raised Explorer Bed with Battery-Powered Flashlight Pump, Queen (Kitchen)
I originally ordered the "AeroBed Elevated Home and Camp Bed with Built-In Extra-Life Pump" but the batteries got stuck inside the pump unit when I tested it out. I had to send it back. I needed a cordless pump style bed for camping so I ordered the raised explorer instead.

Initially the bed was great, quick to fill, good size, easy to carry, etc. It's first outing I camped for 7 days and ended up adding extra air to the bed every night. During it's second outing, over the course of the night it lost air and I ended up with my butt on the ground. It has to do with the construction of the cap. It doesn't seal off the opening sufficiently letting air seep out. I called Aerobed and all they could do was replace it with the same model with the 1 year warranty. I don't think this model is reliable and wouldn't want to replace it with the same thing. Now I'm talking to Amazon about getting a refund.

I do not recommend this bed, it's too unreliable and I'm still looking for the ultimate mattress for camping.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed, July 15, 2010

I really want to love this bed. We have to return the bed because it leaks air. The cap doesn't stay on.

For the money, we also would like to have the pump works with AC. I used the car charger to blow up the bed but it was too big to get it into the tent so we had to use battery to charge it. The bed gets soft very quickly. It is comfortable when it is firm.

I have a single airbed that I got more than 10 years ago. That one holds the air better.

This bed is comfortable and is as-described. But somehow I missed the fact that it does not come with an option for connecting to an electrical outlet. We are limited to battery-power or cigarette lighter-power only. Fine for camping. But whenever I use it at home, I flinch at the battery consumption that is required.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hole after a month, January 28, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Up until tonight (Jan. 29 2011) I was very pleased with this air mattress. I've been using it to sleep on daily for the last month. I hadn't had any problems with it leaking air. Then tonight I was reading and noticed that I was steadily sinking and if I didn't move I could hear the air coming out of a hole.

I stripped it of my sheets and saw that in the middle of the bed (along one of the indentations they've made for comfort) the plastic was torn. The rip was approximately 1/4th of an inch long and leaking a considerable amount of air. I've never had anything sharp on the bed and it has been covered by my sheets the whole time and there is no corresponding hole in the sheets so I have to assume that the plastic it is made out of is low enough quality that it simply split (for reference here I'm all of 150 lbs it isn't like I was putting tons of weight on it). It is unacceptable that a product that I paid almost 100 dollars for lasted only slightly over a month.

Do not buy this item!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the best one for camping !, October 15, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Aerobed Raised Explorer Bed with Battery-Powered Flashlight Pump, Queen (Kitchen)
This was purchased as a gift for our daughter and our son in law. We went camping with them for the maiden voyage of the Aerobed. After spending way too much time shopping and reading reviews this seemed like the only one with the important features. First it is the Aerobed name, not necessarily better, but I trust it more than an unknown name. Queen size is ideal for two and this one uses standard sheets and has a non skid surface aso they stayed in place all weekend. The mattresses with a built in 110v pump are fine at home, but you don't always have electricity when camping, also if the pump fails there are few options to inflate. This Aerobed has a separate pump, which allows you to use most anything (incuding lungs) to inflate. The pump only needs about 3 minutes to inflate and it doubles as a flashlight. The pump runs on 8 "C" cells which are a lot but it will run (actually faster) when plugged into a lighter socket. Most of the rechargable pumps with other mattresses will charge off a lighter but wont run directly if discharged. My fear was the rechageable feature dying during months of storage leaving you with no convenient way of inflating. The mattress is a nice thickness (18" I think) makes you feel well off floor but does not have instability of double height mattresses. Anyway, its comfortable and no leaks so we are happy.
