5.0 out of 5 stars Aerobic Yoga -- A tough workout.
I have bee using Yoga practice for Strength by Rodney Yee and Yoga Mind and Body for about 6 months and just recently got Aerobic Yoga. As the name suggests the practice is truly aerobic. The pace is much faster than Rodney's but the poses are not held for that long. It is an hour long and left me sweating. The tape is one continuous flow without a break. It...

3.0 out of 5 stars energizing
This is a good video. It would be good for someone who has already had some intermediate yoga classes and knows how to do the poses correctly without injuring themselves. It moves very quickly and allows little time to attain some of the postures; it takes at least 4 or 5 sessions to "get it" to remember what is coming next. It would be a terrible tape for a...

It includes a variety of poses, more than I have seen in other tapes(camel, shoulder stand, head stand, back bend, different triangles, etc).Very tough! Tracey gives the instructions - her instructions are good and her voice is calming. Due to the fast pace, I would not consider this a beginner tape. Definitely a good challenge for an intermediate. I consider this tape more challenging than the others I mentioned above.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really makes you sweat, September 24, 2000

I do ashtanga, primary series yoga at least 2x a week. I bought this tape because I wanted a shorter yoga tape that would give me an aerobic workout. This tape is it. It starts out with 3 rounds each of sun salutations A,B &C, and then progresses to standing postures connected by push-up, upward dog and downward dog poses. After that you get abs and sitting postures. I am sweating bullets by the time I get to the sitting postures. My only complaint is that I wish it were maybe 15 minutes longer for the salutations. Otherwise great tape. Good for everyday.

I am a beginning astanga yogini, and I (like another reviewer) wanted a tape that I could do as an alternative but would still give me a good workout. I like this tape a lot (I also own "Total Yoga" by the same people from the White Lotus foundation). I do, however, wish there were five rounds of each sun salutation rather than three - this would give you a better warm-up and increase the amount of heat so you go through the rest of the practice more easily. I usually do a few rounds of sun salutations A and B before I do the tape, and that helps. Also, be sure you have a good surface to practice on, because you will likely get sweaty. Keep the room warmer than usual, if possible, and be sure you have a good mat; otherwise, the repetition of the partial sun salutation might be aggravating if you're practicing on an uncomfortable surface. If you are a total newcomer to yoga or are not in decent shape, I would recommend starting with something like Total Yoga, which is not as intense.

For the first few minutes of this tape, I thought I was not going to like it. I was afraid of being bored to death because there was no scenery, no music, and the instructors have a very dull, dry delivery. Just as I was thinking that I'd wasted $20, I found myself lost in the flow and truly enjoying it. I do not recommend it for beginners, but it's a great tape for intermediate students who enjoy Ashtanga or power yoga. The first half of the tape is a good flow that can make you sweat, followed by ab work, floor poses, and a nice long headstand and shoulder stand before relaxation. It's about an hour long, and it's one of my favorites.

It moves very quickly and allows little time to attain some of the postures; it takes at least 4 or 5 sessions to "get it" to remember what is coming next. It would be a terrible tape for a beginner. It is more like being in a class where the sequence of postures is called out, but without any other instruction. The segment on ujayi breath at the beginning is fairly good, and overall it provides an excellent workout. It gets three stars instead of four for the production, which looks kind of late-eighties-exercise-video-ish.

I practice with this tape when I can't make my Ashtanga class. It's a great workout - I sweat so much that I often slip off my sticky mat! I agree with some of the other reviewers in that there should be more sun salutations for the warm-up. Overall, though, it's great!
