5.0 out of 5 stars The field 4 which Bodywatching : A Field Guide, was written, September 18, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Aerobicise:Beginning Workout [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This is the beginning volume of a series of 3, Ron Harris videos. These were produced in the early 1980's, at the forefront of that decade's, "fitness craze."

The athletic models retain the softness of form that is often missing from modern exercise videos. They retain the feminine smoothness that is lost when you see modern-times low bodyfat, overtanned bodies.

These early Aerobicise videos present female beauty in motion in a fashion that has never been duplicated. All the elements of the female form, which are unique are present. These elements are depicted in, "Bodywatching : A Field Guide to the Human Species," by Desmond Morris.

You'll see the slight bend of the elbow that is unique to the straigtened arms, as well as the rounded knees. Additional elements, as outlined in the field-guide are prevalent.

The cast is timeless. The hairstyles have become classic. The costumes, simple mono-color leotards provide a smooth, form-following covering. The models are young and firm enough not to need constricting, supportive clothing. There are no tights, no 'hose, no shoes. Off-screen narration is kept to a minimum, so that the viewer becomes caught up on the music's rhythmic flow, while his eyes are entranced by the models' rhythmic beauty.

This video is a pleasure to view. Its aesthetics are pure and beautiful. This is a timeless classic. It offers the peak of modest presentation, yet all the allure of pin-up models.

The routines are valid, as modern routines. However, if used for exercise, you will have to balance your routine, off-screen. The aerobics are high-impact, in bare feet. Floor exercises are vigorous, without a mat. Makeup and closeups are superb. These, all-natural models are true athletes, yet retain their femininity. They have avoided the regimens that result in bulging muscles, deep muscular cuts, and the leathery, over-tanned skin, as predominate the videos from the late 1980's and 1990's.

Beauty in motion... with focus upon beauty. I adore this cinematic masterpiece. END

5.0 out of 5 stars Aerobicise is the "fitness craze," as it was meant to be..., September 24, 1998

This review is from: Aerobicise:Beginning Workout [VHS] (VHS Tape)
Take a step back to the early days of the 1980's fitness craze. This tape predates the careers of most of today's fitness instructors.

Yet, this episode was cutting edge fitness, incorporating entertainment into the mix. The music is upbeat, even mystical, at times.

Amidst a neutral, white background, toned athletes perform high impact aerobics without modern safety gear, like shoes, mats and heart monitors.

Unique among fitness videos, Aerobicise completes any collection by showing the beginning of the era, the pattern from which all others carved their niche.

The original Aerobicise series was broadcast on the cable-subscription network, Showtime.

The show was so popular that it found appeal, nationally, and was converted into "The 20 Minute Workout" series.

Aerobicise is the "fitness craze," as it was meant to be: Pure, Natural & FUN !!! END

5.0 out of 5 stars Aerobicise The Beginning Workout Review, January 18, 2007
When segments of AEROBICISE first aired on The Tomorrow Show. The Tonight Show, Showtime and ON-TV, they created a national sensation. Letters poured in begging for more. So now, for the first time, our complete AEROBICISE course in three videocassettes is available for you. This program, THE BEGINNING WORKOUT, is designed as an introduction to AEROBICISE. Featuring seven beautiful girls and two agile guys, The BEGINNING WORKOUT runs 96 minutes and is divided into four self-contained 24-minute classes progressing in difficulty. Produced and directed by famed fashion photographer Ron Harris, AEROBICISE is unprecedented. It's an exercise course-winner of Video Review's 1982 VIRA Award for "Best How To Program" It's a show featuring original music. It's graphically outrageous, innovative and entrancing. In short, AEROBICISE is a sensual spectacle. Something you can simply sit and watch. Play at parties. Give as a gift. Best of all, because the show looks just too good to resist, you're going to be inspired to join in and start moving. Whether you're a watcher or a joiner, you're going to enjoy AEROBICISE--the fun way to improve the quality of your life.
