I bought these and Miracle Grow liquid feeder to start grape tomatoes in my AeroGarden 7 system. The seeds sprouted within 8 days, not 14-21 as the package stated. They are growing like crazy and are thriving! I will be trying other seed varieties soon and I'm hoping that it will be an economical alternative to the overpriced Aerogarden pod kits.

I have had an aerogarden for years. I wanted to get some vegetables started for this summer and found the replacement sponges here at a good price. These are just too short. When you put them in the pods you have to literally push them down about an inch from the top for them to even touch the water. If you don't, they will stay dry and seeds won't sprout. These are about 1 1/4" long. When you push them down to touch the water they push right through the pod that holds them. Way more work then they should be.

My husband uses them in his aero garden to start plants from seeds. He says they do not fit like the origional factory replacements and after using them up would not purchase them again . He would stick to Aeor Grow origional

These are ok but they don't spread out to fill the plastic holder. So my plants fall over. I've had to stick cotton balls on top to keep that from happening. I will look for a different type next time I order.

These arrived exactly as described, they fit into my Aerogarden 7 with just a bit of wiggle room. I will definitely use these again. Every seed I have planted in these sponges has sprouted, which is not the ratio of success I've had with the Manufacturer Recommended Sponges. Yes, they're a little shorter than we've come to expect, but Effective and Successful. (editing again! UPDATE: I have received an Aerogarden LED for Christmas, started one with these sponges, the other with the kit that came with the garden. I forgot all about the scourge of their brand sponges/seeds, I don't know what they have that causes this - Mold. So 3 of the sponges from the co. started growing mold. So in the trash with those, a thorough clean of the little cages, starting again with these sponges. Yes, they're shorter but in my experience they work Much Much better than the AG brand.)

These were small but I was able to use them in my Aerogarden by purchasing a sheet of 1" styrofoam. Using my Aerogarden 60 pod Seedstarter as a template, I cut it to shape, marked off the holes and, with a piece of heated pipe, melted holes in it. The Styrofoam sheet floated in the Aerogarden water tray and all, but a few, of my seeds sprouted. More so than when I started the previous batch of seeds in the original Areogarden 60 pod Seedstarter. I share most of my seedlings with family, friends and neighbors.

1. These are less than half of the size of the aerogarden product.
2. They still work for plants BUT keep in mind their further form which means the seedlings need to travel that much more higher before passing the label. For some plants this may be an issue.

Update: 10/6/15
I changed it from 3 to 1 star. Here's why:
Between me and my dad, we have three AeroGardens, One extra into ultras. My dad asked me to clean out his aero garden to plant medicinal plants (Dillweed, holy basil, etc) which I did. The dill, was from a aero garden set and thus came with a full sponge so I use that instead of these, however for the other plans I used these. Within a few weeks I noticed a rather significant issue with his plants, while the deal was growing nice and strong, all the other plants hadn't even gotten past the label yet. Of course I knew that this would be the case as these were smaller sponges however when I looked at the plants on the underside, I saw that they were growing roots out through the top hole where the seeds are put into. I also noticed that the plant some cells were constantly getting wet from the water nutrient drip. After another week or so I pulled the labels off to try to encourage the plants to grow faster with more light, which they did with the exception of two plants which never made it past the label but are actually still very much alive!

After another couple of weeks, when the plants in these grow sponges had developed a fair bit, all them suddenly simply stopped growing with the exception of the dill, One plant even just up and died on my dad.

Now, while this may seem like an isolated incident, I was also using the sponges in my own aero garden, I had used them to grow strawberries spinach.

Shipping was earlier than expected. The pods came as shown and did not fit into the grower. I put a toothpick through the pod to keep it above the water level. They were jammed into a plastic bag, too small for the contents. Three were broken. Pay the extra money and get the origionals.
