What, to my mind, differentiates this personal account of helicopter flying in Vietnam during the '60s is that the author is a good writer. This is not a dull recitation of facts nor is it a sickeningly personal chronology. Rather it covers many incidents in the author's Vietnam service -and what led up to it- in a light manner that makes the reader want to know "...then what happened?"
Perhaps the best aspect of this book is that the author never lost his sense of humor - a characteristic that shines through all of his writing. One even wonders if perhaps some of the tales really happened to him or are proverbial "war stories". Whichever, they are well written (like the book itself.) |
