Buy This If You Still Don't Have These Albums,
By
This review is from: Aerosmith/Get Your Wings/Toys In The Attic (Audio CD)
Well, this one's obvious. It contains the band's first three albums... the good but raw "Aerosmith" the much more focused classic "Get Your Wings", and the band's finest effort "Toys In The Attic". If you have these albums then you will not want this, except maybe to complete your Aerosmith collection. But, if you don't own these three Aerosmith classics, then buy it immediately. The rating below applies only if you don't have any of these albums, if you have 1 or 2 of them then the rating goes down signifigantly, and if you have all three, then the rating doesn't apply.

One good disc, one great disc, and one excellent disc...and all for a discounted price. The first album contains some chesnuts for sure: "Somebody", "Dream On", "Mama Kin" and "Write Me" are great songs, but only "Dream On" has the polished hard rock sound Aerosmith would achieve later. The tunes have a borrowed bluesy sound, the lyrics are not yet humorous or clever, and the recording sounds like it was made using soup can microphones."Get Your Wings" was a big step forward in terms of recording and performance. Most of the tracks are CLASSIC Aerosmith, but "Seasons of Wither", "Same Old Song & Dance", and "Lord of the Thighs" are top notch. With this LP the band had learned to swagger and strut, the lyrics were about sex, sex, sex (with a humorous twist), and the riffs are raunchy, sweaty & tasty as hell. "Toys in the Attic" is nearly perfect. Lots of stylistic variety demonstrated in the likes of "Uncle Salty" and "Big Ten Inch Record", yet the stream of perfect riff-rockers is amazing. My personal favorite is "Adam's Apple", but dude...also included are "Sweet Emotion", "Walk this Way", "Toys in the Attic", and "No More, No More". I saw Aerosmith in the summer of 1979 when I was 12 years old. "Night in the Ruts" had been recorded but not yet released. The band was trashed & sloppy, but it was the best day of my life up until that point. They opened with "Train Kept a Rollin" and I had a stupid grin on my face for over an hour until they wrapped up with "Draw the Line". (NOTE: AC/DC with Bon Scott opened the show and Ted Nugent headlined). Anyhow...I'm not a kid anymore, but these discs remind me of the best parts of adolescence. This is da poop, babies.

The Best Aerosmith Sampler Available,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Aerosmith/Get Your Wings/Toys In The Attic (Audio CD)
All of the band's first three albums were 20-bit digitally remastered for this box set. You can get them individually, but this deal can't be beat. I'd always enjoyed the album cuts I'd heard on the radio, but had never been a huge Aerosmith fan...until last spring when I suddenly fell in love with "Sweet Emotion" from Toys In The Attic, their third album. After doing some research, this box set seemed to be the best bang for the buck, and after listening only once I was completely satisfied with my purchase. Each album represents a stage of the band's development, and offers the listener something different in theme and approach. If you like straight-ahead rock of the 1970's--especially blues-based rock from a band that learned its chops playing live in small clubs, then you'll REALLY enjoy these three albums. The price can't be beat, and the music is VERY solid.
