Buy This If You Still Don't Have These Albums,
By
This review is from: Aerosmith/Get Your Wings/Toys In The Attic (Audio CD)
Well, this one's obvious. It contains the band's first three albums... the good but raw "Aerosmith" the much more focused classic "Get Your Wings", and the band's finest effort "Toys In The Attic". If you have these albums then you will not want this, except maybe to complete your Aerosmith collection. But, if you don't own these three Aerosmith classics, then buy it immediately. The rating below applies only if you don't have any of these albums, if you have 1 or 2 of them then the rating goes down signifigantly, and if you have all three, then the rating doesn't apply.

One good disc, one great disc, and one excellent disc...and all for a discounted price. The first album contains some chesnuts for sure: "Somebody", "Dream On", "Mama Kin" and "Write Me" are great songs, but only "Dream On" has the polished hard rock sound Aerosmith would achieve later. The tunes have a borrowed bluesy sound, the lyrics are not yet humorous or clever, and the recording sounds like it was made using soup can microphones."Get Your Wings" was a big step forward in terms of recording and performance. Most of the tracks are CLASSIC Aerosmith, but "Seasons of Wither", "Same Old Song & Dance", and "Lord of the Thighs" are top notch. With this LP the band had learned to swagger and strut, the lyrics were about sex, sex, sex (with a humorous twist), and the riffs are raunchy, sweaty & tasty as hell. "Toys in the Attic" is nearly perfect. Lots of stylistic variety demonstrated in the likes of "Uncle Salty" and "Big Ten Inch Record", yet the stream of perfect riff-rockers is amazing. My personal favorite is "Adam's Apple", but dude...also included are "Sweet Emotion", "Walk this Way", "Toys in the Attic", and "No More, No More". I saw Aerosmith in the summer of 1979 when I was 12 years old. "Night in the Ruts" had been recorded but not yet released. The band was trashed & sloppy, but it was the best day of my life up until that point. They opened with "Train Kept a Rollin" and I had a stupid grin on my face for over an hour until they wrapped up with "Draw the Line". (NOTE: AC/DC with Bon Scott opened the show and Ted Nugent headlined). Anyhow...I'm not a kid anymore, but these discs remind me of the best parts of adolescence. This is da poop, babies.

The Best Aerosmith Sampler Available,

All of the band's first three albums were 20-bit digitally remastered for this box set. You can get them individually, but this deal can't be beat. I'd always enjoyed the album cuts I'd heard on the radio, but had never been a huge Aerosmith fan...until last spring when I suddenly fell in love with "Sweet Emotion" from Toys In The Attic, their third album. After doing some research, this box set seemed to be the best bang for the buck, and after listening only once I was completely satisfied with my purchase. Each album represents a stage of the band's development, and offers the listener something different in theme and approach. If you like straight-ahead rock of the 1970's--especially blues-based rock from a band that learned its chops playing live in small clubs, then you'll REALLY enjoy these three albums. The price can't be beat, and the music is VERY solid.

If only it had the next 3 too! But this boxed set is AWESOME. If you don't buy the Box of Fire, and you are wanting the first 3 CDs Aerosmith put out, this is for yoU!! It's a great value, and the box it is in is cute. These 3 CDs are SOOOOOOOOOOO AWESOME!! The album Rocks is the only one that tops any of these. You should buy Rocks, too!!!

Definitely the best rock album of Aerosmith,

This review is from: Aerosmith/Get Your Wings/Toys In The Attic (Audio CD)
This album is rock. This is pure rock. No hard-rock, no extra guitar solos, no extreme high voice, just ROCK. All the titles sounds rock and strong, with a good rhytm (influenced by blues scale and rhytms...revisited). This album has everything about the rock : guitar, bass, drums, and...The voice. Nothing more. Perfect.

It was great to be able to replace 3 of my favorite aerosmith records in one fell swoop. I enjoyed listening to all the old stuff that hadn't been on radio for some time. Also, my 20 year old daughter told me that "Get Your Wings " was awesome, and she burned it into her ipod. High praise indeed!

The Best box collection there could possibly be,
This review is from: Aerosmith/Get Your Wings/Toys In The Attic (Audio CD)
I just purchased this box set and when I got home I inserted the three cds (seperately) into my cd player and still can't get them out. As soon as one cd ends another one goes in. The best songs on the cds are (in album order): From Aerosmith: 1. Make It, 2. Somebody, 3. Dream On, 4. Mama Kin, 5. Movin' Out. From Get Your Wings: 1. Same Old Song And Dance, 2. Lord Of The Thighs, 3. Spaced, 4. Woman Of The World, 5. S.O.S. (Too Bad), 6. Seasons Of Wither, 7. Pandora's Box. From Toys In The Attic: 1. Toys In The Attic, 2. Uncle Salty, 3. Adam's Apple, 4. Walk This Way, 5. Sweet Emotion, 6. No More No More, 7. Round And Round, 8. You See Me Crying.Just because I left out some songs from each does not in any way mean that those aren't great tracks. Listen to the whole cd before you try to find the best from each one. The best thing about this set is that it includes the origional version of Same Old Song And Dance. If you only heard the version on their greatest hits cd it edits the Gotcha with the cocaine they found with your gun part. All three cd's are excellent and you need to buy them to get the full Aerosmith experience.

It doesn't get much better than this....,

....but if you are a fan of their most recent releases than keep on clicking. These three CDs are some of the best American heavy blues rock ever recorded. I wish they had included "Rocks" with this collection, but you can't have everything. These three records influenced some of the 80's heavyweights like Motley Crue and Guns N Roses (who even recorded their own version of "Mama Kin" for their "Live....Like a Suicide", subsequently made the b-side of their "Lies" release) and numerous other hard rock bands. The Bullet Boys (and 80's "hair" band one hit wonder) even recorded a song about Joe Perry entitled "Owed To Joe" about Joe Perry's influence. These three discs show exactly why. If you are serious about finding out why Aerosmith are so reverred, why they were inducted into the RnR H.O.F. ahead of icons such as KISS and Black Sabbath, then this is should be your next music purchase. You can't beat the price either.

I had all these "albums" on vinyl years ago, but just now got around to replacing them on CD and this 3 disk set was a great way to do it at a great price ($17). Now that the disks have been remastered, it cleans up some of the engineering issues with the first album without sacrificing the the band's sound over their first three releases.
The first disk features Dream On, but the other songs have a rough edge to them and the band hasn't quite got it's "sound" together yet, but that starts to develop in the second disk, Get Your Wings. This disk is still a bit rough as well, but that Aerosmith sound is starting to shine through. Their third release, Toys in the Attic, was considered the band's major breakthrough album and sounded like the Aerosmith we all know, with Perry and Whitford's guitars working together and a more polished sound overall. That is no insult to the first disks, both great in their own right, but you can really hear the band's signature sound develop over these three disks.

ROCK YOUR FACE OFF!!!!,

This review is from: Aerosmith/Get Your Wings/Toys In The Attic (Audio CD)
Here in one box, someone managed to put together three of the greatest rock and roll albums ever made. Joined right in the center by THE greatest rock and roll album ever made.... I talk of course of Aerosmiths second album GET YOUR WINGS. Easily the most balls out, sleazy, rock and roll experience one could ever obtain.
On the ends are two more A-smith albums worthy of high praise. The debut, and the third, a classic, TOYS IN THE ATTIC. It's funny, because back in the day, I bought a box from Columbia that included Aersomith albums 2-4, that included Rocks, another timeless... however, if you are new to the BBofB, I would definately recommend going for this box. Each one of the first three albums is the cats PeeJays. ALBUM ONE includes the killer track DREAM ON, which was mine and many others first glimpse of the band. The rest of this album showcases a knack for bluesy style jams, in a unique rock and roll voice. WINGS ups the anti a ton. And literally is one of the most important rock records ever made. Even the great Zep cannot match the style and attitude of this brilliance. Play loud and unrelentlessly. TOYS is the one that brought in the commercial success, but never slumps behind the first two. Many hail it as the bands best (some say Rocks-so check that out next...) but pretty much all the tunes that get replayed year after year come off of this one... WALK THIS WAY, SWEET EMOTION, NO MORE NO MORE and so forth... If I've done my math correctly I believe you get 28 tracks in all. Every one is killer, and these are most certainly albums that you should have in your collection. If you're cool. You know. If you're not cool, then go check out Wham! or something... ok. that's all from me. Later... Enjoy! |
