Aeso 8.4" portable dvd player *sound issues*,
By
This review is from: Aeso 6 in 1 portable DVD/VCD/CD/MP3/mp4 Player (Electronics)
I'm on my second one and both of them out of the box have had sound issues. When I play a dvd the player cannot pick up voices. It will play music and background noise but no voices. Sorry, I can't read lips.
Some movies the background/music noise is decent but with other dvd's its so low you can't hear it but then it will get louder after a while and then lower. The thing has major sound issues. It does have a good picture. I think the player is made fairly well because i've beat both of them pretty good while playing a movie (because I knew I was sending them back) and they didn't skip, just froze up once or twice momentarily. The games are ok. They claim 300 games but there might be 100 different games because each game is repeated over and over. The player is not as nice looking as other players. It looks kinda cheap. Battery life is good. The t.v. is worthless. Radio is good. Most of the functions work only with the remote so don't lose it or your screwed. If it wasn't for the sound issue's I would give it a 5 star rating but shipping them back and forth to the Ebay seller is getting expensive. I've found a few other reviews on the smaller aeso dvd players and the concensus is AESO has quality control issues that need to be resolved.

I had mine for 65 days and the screen went black. I can't get a hold of the mfr. at aeso.net The dvd and cd player still work.I drove it around to tech shops thought just the ccfl bulb burned out.(would have cost $60.00)....finally one looked at it,said the bulb is good, but the inverter board that lights it up is burned badly. I wasted hours finding the bulb and a whole day (14 hours)looking for parts.. After I couldnt get help from the mfr.I took matters in my own hands because I liked it so much I was going to pay to have it fixed if I could. But you can't. I wrote aeso and audetech in China but no response. It seems aeso only wants to talk to people to distibute these. The UPC for this is 689076433495 Very hard to find one at a store, most of these are distributed thru auctions. If you could find one at a store you might be able to contact a human being and get a contact for service if there is any service for these. After 14 hours straight on the net I found no service. I really liked it the first 65 days

I've owned this unit for 3 months and I am impressed with the versatility. The unit plays DVD's and dvd-R very well (have not tried +R or RW,) also plays cd's and VCD's (I'd like to find more games on VCD). I've had very little skipping when played in the car. The sound is really phenomenal when you hook it up to an external system. On its own, the sound is better than most of my other gadgets, but the maximum volume is fairly low. What I really like on this particular model is the built in wireless radio connection which allows me to wirelessly play all of the unit functions through my car radio 9or home stereo)! I love it because I commute a lot. I record 8 hours of streaming online radio from my computer to a single dvd-R and then play the dvd on this unit through my car stereo on my commutes. Neat!! (almost as good as Sirius or XM :)) I have not tried the USB connection yet but with so many gadgets now having USB capability, like my cell phone and my MP3 player, the interconnection capability should be endless. I have used the A/V in and out connections for various hook ups and again find this to work well and add versatility. The tv has a very clear picture, works great on its own or hooked up to cable tv. I use the tv as an extra in my bedroom. I was very concerned about quality and technical assistance before I bought the unit. The e-bay seller offered nice technical assistance and, at the time, offered a square trade warranty, only $16 for 3 years, which I gladly bought. Unfortunately, the e-bay seller now only offers their own, much more expensive warranty. As this brand becomes more popular, I hope they will establish a US tech support number. The manual is comprehensive and understandable although it is written in charming 'broken 'English and could use editing. As for improvements, the radio fx does not have a station scan and this is inconvenient and hopefully would be improved. Also, you have to toggle back and forth between volume and station preset in the radio fx, again very inconvenient. The remote works well but you have to aim it pretty close to the IR receiver. The game fx works great, I just am not familiar with most of the games and there is very little explanation as to how to play them. The game pads work ok, are pretty cheap. Again, great for kids in the car or at home, where they can also hear the game sound through the car (or home)stereo via wireless connection. I look forward to my trip to Europe in July to test and use this unit with PAL and SECAM tv systems, as it is supposed to be pretty international with tv reception. It also plays my PAL dvd's without problem! All in all I love this unit, as for quality, so far so good, no problems. I keep my gadgets for a long time, and the next three years will tell... Overall,I think this is a very nice addition to the US market.

I purchased 3 of these units, as gifts for friends / family members. Within 1 month, two of the units started having problems. In the middle of a movie, the screen would suddenly start flickering, almost like someone was pulling the power plug and causing it to turn on and off repeatedly. I have since come to find out that it was the battery packs supplied with this unit seem to go bad VERY quickly. The third unit I purchased for someone is still working, but that's probably because it has been sitting in a closet more than being used... LOL. I have tried repeatedly to locate parts / tech support / suppliers for replacement batteries, etc., but to no avail. The units still work great when plugging them in directly from the power cord to the unit and bypassing the rechargeable battery. Other than the battery though, the unit is excellent and does have great picture quality, sound, and full-functionality. I see places like Best Buy DO carry many varieties of replacement batteries for portable DVD players, so perhaps one of them will work with this unit. I have not been able to test them yet.
