I love reading this book to my children. The stories have rich language, yet they're short enough that even young children don't get lost. My 6 and 5 year olds read two of these fables each week for school, and they're learning a lot.

Good book. My son enjoys listening to the CD and "reading" himself. I appreciate the morals at the end of each story.

I bought this for my (almost) 4 year old, and while he likes hearing the stories read to him, he really doesn't understand them well. Not because of their content, but because of the language. The stories are written in extremely formal language, and to modern ears the sentence structure is clunky and the stories unnecessarily difficult to follow. I have to translate the text to modern English just so it doesn't sound like I'm reading a medieval bible.

Stories are great and plentiful, artwork is lovely, but it's just so clumsily written that I'm going to have to purchase another version of the book.

(And yes, I know the stories are several thousand years old, but if they've been translated from their original Greek to English, there's no reason the language can't be more modern, too.)

Ok, I almost didn't buy this because of the "ass" comment, which I did appreciate. I'm a conservative homeschooler and didn't really want my 3, 4, 5, and 7 year olds talking about the "ass."

But I was attracted by the price and CD, and I'm really happy with the product. IMHO everything for little kids ought to be on CD because they learn so well from them. And the CD has most of the famous fables on it (about a third of them from the book, which has over 100).

I would have given it five stars if the print/layout had been just a little bit more kid-friendly... the pages have the old school font and layout like from the 50s, with double columns and typewriter (close set) font. But it is still a lovely book, old fashioned, true to the originals. After debating about this version versus the others, I'm happy with it. We used it with Evan-Moor Lit Pockets (Fables), and it had all 8 stories suggested.

Beautiful artwork, great lessons. Aesop's fables are often fun stories with great lessons for children (and adults). Kids don't get tired of reading these fables again and again.

We haven't used the CD yet, but I'm glad to have it for the car if we're ever on a long drive. I will bring both the book and CD so our youngest can look at the illustrations while listening.

I just love this! I was in great condition, great service, The pictures are beautiful, the additional audio CD was a great so I can leave the little ones to sit and listen while I work with my oldest and then we do a study guide on the fables, we will treasure this book for years to come. A must have for any homeschool family!! Thanks! =D

this is a fantastic way to teach your children life lessons. dare i say, brilliant! i really love it! a lot of grown ups should read this also. not naming anyone in particular but...

For those who are particular about language, I received the book and discovered all the stories referring to donkeys are written as "ass". I bought this book for a friend's child. My friend is very particular about this kind of thing, so it looks like I will be returning it.

Other than that, I really liked the book. The stories are great and the illustrations are beautiful.
