Few likeable characters here,

The Kindle store synopsis is a bit misleading. This book is really less about a suitor having a difficult choice between two sisters than it is about a hapless couple being pulled to pieces between their rapacious, greedy relatives. In basically the entire book, Ellie, the heroine, is spineless and has low self esteem. I kept waiting for her and Claymore to pluck up and stand up for themselves, and instead of doing that they let the other characters run the show--especially Claymore's mother and Ellie's twin. There is surfeit of really unlikeable characers in this book, without any redeeming qualities to make them more interesting...not one of Smith's best. One difference here that intrigued me is that the couple marries about 3/4 through the book, instead of ending with an engagement as most of Smith's books do.

The book was alright until the end. The ending seemed to drag on and was less about finding a resolution, as just finding where each other was. Then they did, the end.I found whatever the main heroine's name (didn't leave a big impression), temper tantrum to be out of character. So I stopped reading it for a while before, I finally picked it up again and skipped to the end just to finish the story. So it wasn't horrible, just not very good.

I thought this book was very entertaining. I enjoyed every character. If you like Joan Smith, then I'm sure you'll like this book.
