Book Description

Fans of the traditional Regency Romances of Georgette Heyer will enjoy this witty, entertaining romance from New York Times bestselling author Candice Hern. Meg Ashburton's single London Season had been a disaster. Skinny, red-haired, and 6-feet tall, she had been overlooked as an insignificant gawky bumpkin by all of Society, especially by the gentlemen. Except for one man. Lord Sedgewick had danced with her, and she had secretly fallen in love with him. Now, six years later, a carriage accident near Meg's country home finds a seriously-injured Sedge thinking he's dead, with a red-haired angel bending over him. Meg does her best to insure that the only man she's ever loved doesn't die while under her family's care. As he recovers, she has a second chance at love with him. But when he finally makes her an offer, it is not the sort that Meg can accept. Or can she?

From a famous stud farm in the Suffolk countryside to the ballrooms of London, Regency England comes alive in this charming romance.

"Ms. Hern exquisitely develops her appealing love story with richly textured characterizations and impeccable craftsmanship."
--Romantic Times

4.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Fireside Romance January 11, 2005
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Viscount Colin Sedgewick thought he had died and gone to heaven, for it could only be an Angel with fiery red hair and cool and gentle hands slowly stroking his face that was ministering to his needs. But as he slowly regained consciousness, the pain that was radiating from every part of his body, let him know that he was still alive.

As she and her brother came upon the wrecked curricle by the side of the road, Meg Ashburton recognized at once that he was Lord Sedgewick, the one and only man that had asked her to dance at her disastrous season six years ago in London. How could she not? She'd fallen in love with him then and had never forgotten his kindness and his beautiful sweet smile. Naturally he couldn't possibly remember her as the tall, skinny, and extremely awkward, young girl from the beautifully filled out young woman she was now. In bringing him to their home at Thornhill, Meg and her family would help him to recover during his convalescence.

As he convalesced, Sedge came to look forward to the very sound of her footsteps in the hallway, and couldn't wait for the day he could hold her in his arms. Meg thought he was looking at her with more than just friendship but eavesdropping on his cousin speaking of Sedge's many conquests, she realized that Sedge would never marry her. Therefore, when Sedge nervously made what she considered a very inappropriate proposal, Meg was devastated in thinking that he could have so disabused their hospitality and insulted her so. Sedge was just as devastated, thinking that he'd read her feelings so wrong and she harbored no feelings for him. Much later, Meg thinking that her virtue was doing her no good, if she let the only man she'd ever cared for walk away decided to go and tell him she changed her mind.

4.0 out of 5 stars a better than usual Regency romance August 1, 1996
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Want a little mystery with your romance? This is the book
for you. Viscount Sedgewick is recovering at the home of Meg
Ashburton. He met Meg briefly during her only London season.
Meg has bloomed since her season and is much more attractive.
Unbeknownst to him, someone is trying to kill Viscount
Sedgewick. The suspense builds nicely as the romance slowly
progresses and the mystery deepens.

4.0 out of 5 stars An articulate and engaging Regency romance April 6, 2013
Format:Paperback
An English gentleman lived by a code of honor, but does that also apply to rakes? Even if he is a gentleman by birth do his actions make the man? AN AFFAIR OF HONOR plays on that premise in an amusing way.

After being thrown from his curricle and hitting his head, Colin Herriot, Viscount Sedgewick thinks he sees an angel hovering over him, so he must be dead. Better angels than devils; though his capricious life and rakish ways should equal the later. The figure dons coppery curls and creamy skin so he must be in heaven.

Cradled gently in her arms, Meg Ashburton recognizes the injured traveler immediately as Lord Sedgewick whom she met six years prior during her London Season of 1808. She was a gangly debutante imitating a wallflower. He was a handsome rake with an infamous smile and scandalous reputation. He gallantly asked her to dance. She was smitten. She would never forget the handsome, charming man who showed a kindness to one who others of his station would not give the time of day. She doubted that he remembered her.

Meg and her brother Terrence rescue Sedge and bring him to their home, Thornhill, a horse breeding farm not far away from the scene of the accident. His head injury and broken leg bring on a serious fever which engulfs him for days. Letters are sent to his family and soon Cousin Albert Herriot arrives to see him improving, well cared for, but bedridden until his leg mends. Sedge is unconcerned when Terrence tells him that the axle of his curricle was purposely cut. Who could possibly want to harm him? He truly believes that it was just an accident.

After her disastrous debut season six years ago, Meg has had no interest in men and does not realize the beautiful woman that she has become. Sedge does, and is immediately attracted to her.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing September 11, 2011
By Demi
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I have read many of Hern's novels and was suprised that this was written by her too.
The story was silly! Based on a misunderstanding that no sane person who is not a child would buy into!
It almost felt like the author had to write something; like she had a deadline and was forced to write something when she was not at all inspired to do so!
Please read some of her other work cause she is a good author of this genre BUT avoid this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't go wrong with Candice May 6, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I really liked this book. I loved the cover. Neither of those really matter when you know the author. She never fails.
I didn't know that it was the last of the series until I got started, but that didn't matter. It is good enough on its own.
This book started well and ended better. With just enough humor to keep a smile on your face.
I don't think anyone can read this book without saying I know those people.

4.0 out of 5 stars Third installment July 28, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
He's injured, she his "angel." If you like a likeable H and a going against the flow h, this is one you may enjoy. If you like mystery (but can figure it out before the end) it's there. I enjoyed Ms Hern's unfolding of a love story minus the ultimate "meeting." Necking and foreplay is tantalizing...throw in miscommunication (how do they come together again?) and a duel and you come up with "An Affair of Honor." Enjoyable read if you are detail oriented.
Third installment to...(1) "A Proper Companion" Robert and Emily, (2) "A Change of Heart" Jack and Mary and this one (3) "An Affair of Honor" Colin ("Sedge"wick) and Meg by Candice Hern.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really adorable, likable heroine, if not a bit self-deprecating
This heroine is by far my favorite among the heroines created from the author's pen. She is in every sense a modern woman in Regency dress; she is older, more wizened and more... Read more
