5.0 out of 5 stars simply beautiful music
the fabulous music of the 50's truly inspired and rendered beautifully by Beegie Adair with the lush jazzy sound of the Jeff Steinberg Orchestra brings this CD much to be listened too day and night..simply beautiful music!

3.0 out of 5 stars A Different Beegie Adair
This is not the Beegie Adair I am used to hearing and love so much. This is more like elevator or supermarket music. It sounds like Claderman to me. It is not the intimate piano of her past recordings. I must admit I am quite disappointed in An Affair To Remember, because I wanted the style of her previous recordings. If you like piano music with violins and orchestra,...

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely among the short list of great jazz pianists, July 17, 2006
By

This review is from: An Affair To Remember (Audio CD)
Reading through some other comments, I'd like to throw in my own three cents. Beegie Adair should indeed be considered among the short list of great jazz pianists. Her recordings are one thing. Here LIVE PERFORMANCES are quite another.

On An Affair To Remember, Beegie Adair and her trio, accompanied by a gorgeous full orchestra on this project, present the great romantic songs from the 1950s film scene in a, yes, "romantic" and "easy on the ears" format. Intentionally created for dinners, candlelight moments, and those oh-so-grand times of canoodling with your heartmate.

This in no way dismisses her from inclusion among Bill Evans, George Shearing, Erroll Garner, Oscar Peterson, Tommy Flanagan, Gene Harris, et al. Still a sceptic? Go see her live concerts. I've attended dozens of them, and I have every single recording she has made (23 to date).

Again, her recordings are great, no doubt. Her live performances are beyond great. Hear for yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Village Square & Beegie Adair have another winner", January 23, 2005
This review is from: An Affair To Remember (Audio CD)
Now under a new banner of Village Square Records, Beegie Adair continues to be the master of interpretation of the composers pen...her latest release "An Affair to Remember (Romantic Movie Songs of the 1950's)" is joined by Roger Spencer (bassist), Chris Brown (drummer), Jack Jezzro (guitar), Denis Solee (tenor sax) and The Jeff Steinberg Orchestra...as they perform twelve great movie themes that became standards...tender loving care arrangements presented with the signature style we've come to love from Beegie.

One can hardly pick a stand out, entire compilation draws on lush arrangements with blends of original sentiment and gorgeous melodies...give a listen to the opening cue "AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER", can see Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr standing by the rail on shipboard... and then "THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL", behind the scenes of Hollywood films with electric performances by Kirk Douglas and Lana Turner..."LOVE IS A MANY SPLENDORED THING", once again a love story with Jennifer Jones and William Holden during the war years, have stood the test of time and will go on forever ~ "A CERTAIN SMILE", almost forgotten film but not the title song, featuring Johnny Mathis with one of his biggest hits, appeared in the film with Rossano Brazzi and Joan Fontaine, Beegie's performance on this track is simply haunting..."CHERRY PINK AND APPLE BLOSSOM WHITE", all time favorite for 1955 with the film "Underwater", starring Jane Russell, Gilbert Roland and Jayne Mansfield, classic hit on the charts for Prez Prado and his Orchestra, but this arrangement from Adair serves up an inimitable instrumental style that completely gets under your skin and you're loving every minute of it..."MOONGLOW", from "Picnic", featuring William Holden, Rosiland Russell and the beautiful sexy Kim Novak, the Charles Dunning and Steve Allen tune was on all the airwaves during the '50s..."PETE KELLY'S BLUES", big film for 1955 featuring Jack Webb (actor/director), Janet Leigh, Edmond O'Brien, Lee Marvin, Andy Devine, Jayne Mansfield, and two of my favorite singers also appeared in the film Ella Fitzgerald and Peggy Lee (Lee was nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Performance that year), this song is seldom heard, thanks to Beegie and her wonderful interpretation we now have this keepsake treasure..."BLUE GARDENIA", a 1953 film with Raymond Burr, Anne Baxter, Richard Conte, Ann Southern and Nat "King" Cole featured singing at a tiki bar, wonderful arrangement by Steinberg and mesmerizing performance by Beegie, can't get enough of her charisma.

This album plays like fine wine and flows very easily on the ears...once again Jack Jezzro (producer) and Greg Howard (executive producer) deserve more than a five star rating as they come through with a must have for all music lovers and fans of Beegie...arrangements take on many moods with the same sensitivity and tender loving care as her previous albums...the closing song "FASCINATION", from "Love In The Afternoon" brings back fond memories, the wonderful Billy Wilder film with Gary Cooper, Audrey Hepburn and Maurice Chevalier, listen as Beegie and Jeff Taylor on Accordion capture the moment of this light heartwarming story through their performance...a wonderful closing tune for the album...just the way we like 'em!

WOW! I love this album! Thanks to Amazon's recommendation I'm a new fan of Ms. Adair. I've downloaded 2 other albums and have enjoyed each one! Bravo Ms. Adair! It is so rare to find playing like this today. And the choice of music so very special! I will eventually purchase all your albums as I'm sure your fans have done. I highly recommend this album for the sheer joy of listening to beautiful music played with grace and love. This album of 50's movie music will set you on a journey of peace and delight.

Excellent "mood" music in the hours spent listening evenings and when reminiscing. Quality will
always be in vogue by those of us who belong to the mature generation and remember the clubs from
a bygone era around the world.
