Book Description

January 1, 1999
AFFAIRS is intended for those who have been betrayed or suspect that they are, and the professionals who generally assist them during their crises including clergy, attorneys, and therapists. The emergency tactics the Dr. Rhodes recommends are intended to achieve the best outcome for all family members, especially the children. The reader is informed about the exact steps to take if an affair is suspected. Twelve things to do and not to do when an affair is revealed are stated and carefully explained. The type of affair in progress has an important role in determing the possible outcome for the couple. The reader is assisted in setting goals so that each step to be taken is likely to yield the desired result. A variety of suggestions are provided to keep the participants from acting out of stress because the earliest reactions to the affair are often determinants of the outcome.

Editorial Reviews

Review

The family is one of our most important institutions and is proving to be more and more fragile in the face of modern stresses. Dr. Rhodes has a deep personal and professional interest in keeping families together if it is warranted and helping them to separate,if necessary, in the most civil and productive manner possible so as to preserve each person's dignity and best interests and to prepare the parents for high level co-parenting. There are many affairs that lead to divorce and destruction. These terrrible outcomes can often be prevented. Dr. Rhodes shows, in detail, what to do and not to do--especially at the first discovery of the betrayal--so that the person who has been betrayed has the greatest number of functional alternatives. Stress compromises and distorts our judegment. AFFAIRS:EMERGENCY TACTICS can bring out the best in us during the worst of times. This is a must read for anyone who suspects an affair or who has just found out they've been betrayed. -- Publisher Comments

5.0 out of 5 stars Spouse having an affair? Make this your bedside companion., February 15, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Affairs: Emergency Tactics (Paperback)
Most books, and most people, take a position on affairs-either you stay and work it out no matter what, or you leave with no going back. This may be the first book to talk about both options. She tells the reader how to determine if there is an affair; how to avoid spur-of-the-moment actions (or acting out and decisions that could have grave repercussions for you; how to determine which of the three types of affairs it is (two you leave, one you stay in her opinion); and then how you recover from the whole thing. Nothing will be easy, but there are ways to help you cope and to create a life as you want it. I wish no one would ever have to read this book, but if you're in this situation, this should be your bed-side companion.

5.0 out of 5 stars No One in a Relationship Should Be Without It, February 22, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Affairs: Emergency Tactics (Paperback)
Would you board a ship if there were no lifeboats or life preservers? Of course not. Then why not make sure you're fully protected in your relationship, too. How? Buy and read Affairs: Emergency Tactics. Dr. Rhodes' excellent, practical, down-to-earth, nuts-and-bolts guide is for every person who is hi--or might be hit--by the disaster of a suddenly discovered partner's affair. It's required reading for women and men who want to protect themselves from the emotional damage of an affair and use it instead as an opportunity to rebuild their lives. I found the section on the different kinds of affairs particularly helpful. Dr. Rhodes enables you to understand what happened, gives you the information to figure out what to do, and empowers you to do it. A winner, from beginning to end.

5.0 out of 5 stars Help for those who suspect their partner is unfaithful., January 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Affairs: Emergency Tactics (Paperback)
This book takes you through a step by step process on how to determine and then how to handle yourself and the relationship with an unfaithful partner. "Affairs" gives you instructions on what to do and what not to do - the latter being just as important as the former.

I only wish I had had this book when I went through my divorce. It would have made things so much clearer and I might not have needed to go through the nightmare for almost two years.

I highly recommend "Affairs".
