Good for the beach, not much else, August 23, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Affairs of State (Paperback)
The idea behind this book was decent, but a slightly absurd plot coupled with an ending so improbable that in this case, fiction was actually stranger than truth, left me thinking that Mr. Macauly should stick with his day job, which is songwriting. Don't get me wrong, the book is not a total waste. In fact, I found the protaganist, Jack Lassiter both quite likeable and well-developed as a character. However, the mere absurdity of a presidential candidate being easily able to slip out of the clutches of his own security on a regular basis, for instance, to commit all sorts of bad acts (and I don't mean obtaining illegal campaign contributions) make this book just a little to far-fetched to accept.
