How Does It Work?

NodeBeat is an experimental node-based audio sequencer and generative music application. By combining music and playful exploration, NodeBeat allows anyone to create an exciting variety of rhythmic sequences and ambient melodies in a fun and intuitive fashion. Enjoy easy navigation, including drag-and-drop to add or remove nodes, double-tap to start or stop octave generators, and a quick shake to clear the screen.

Generators and Notes make up the two types of nodes. Generators pulse and play Notes within proximity. A Note is played in sequence, based on the distance it is from its connected Generator. Pause nodes to create your own beats or let them roam free to have them generate their own.

Create your own music in a matter of minutes or listen to NodeBeat generate its own. Easily share your creations with others or save them for later to show your friends. From the professional to the novice, NodeBeat lets anyone explore creative music.

5.0 out of 5 stars You'd be surprised April 16, 2012

I'm a music teacher, play multiple instruments, and have produced music, so I'm usually skeptical and disappointed with audio and "music" apps. However, this is app far exceeded my expectations, with excellent features (many scales, keys, bpm, attack/delay/echo) to keep the musically inclined intrigued. And it's definitely high on the fun scale. Those who are percussion- and rythmically-oriented may particularly enjoy this one. And it's free today, so grab it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Battery hog, but good April 16, 2012
Verified Purchase
I just downloaded this and tried it out. Worked well and got a nice beat and groove going. I let it go for a bit (about 10 minutes at most) while browsing the web on my desktop. All of a sudden, my phone alerts me to a low battery. It went from probably about 80% to 15-20% in that 10 minute period.

I like the ease of use; it was simple enough to figure out how to get it going without a tutorial or walkthrough. I like the patterns produced, the fact that the groove updates as you're dragging things around, allowing for dynamic changing of the pattern, etc.

Just make sure you're plugged in if you're using it for more than a couple minutes.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME APP! -Updated Review April 16, 2012

NodeBeat is a musical application that allows you to create music by placing "nodes " on the screen. You then move these modes to where ever you'd like them to be & the musical notes will change. There are so many different settings you can play with that'll change the tempo, rhythm, pitch, speed, beats, number of nodes, etc.

When you've perfected your NodeBeat creation, you can then allow it to play while you record & then save it to share with others via Facebook or email or, just keep to yourself.

You can either, listen to NodeBeat play by itself with it's never ending & always changing music or, create your own musical NodeBeat track to save & share with your friends. Maybe, even make a cool ringtone!

I'd been exploring NodeBeat for 10 to 15 minutes and I was having SO MUCH FUN experimenting with the settings and then,......POOF! My colorful creation had suddenly morphed into a black screen before bringing me right back here to the app download page!

*I'm updating my rating to 5*-Stars because I know the developer is working hard at fixing the Force Closing issue & will put out an update as soon as there is a fix. =)

5*- Stars

Sorry, but if you create an app with a gazillion options, you should explain how it works or make it very intuitive.
I compared it to the only comparable program, and that is Plasma Sound.
It has fewer options but at least a tutorial.
In the app I'm reviewing right now, the symbols won't always light up to show your setting choice on Kindle Fire HD, and the menu as such isn't very organized either.
Example: If I choose the wave form, the chosen one lights up.
If I choose the key, it doesn't, though it changes the key.
This app is complex with no instructions. What planet did you import it from?
It has potential but needs a manual and the shortcomings fixed.

4.0 out of 5 stars great app. some buggs. April 16, 2012

some menu action sequences cause a force close. and for the people that didn't see it. this is for higher end devices. that eliminates anything sub 1 ghz at least. The in application graphics are awesome, and the touch response works like a charm. I could only get my brain to use 3 fingers on the screen, and the application registered all 3 touches doing different actions!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fun, cool app! August 4, 2013
I really enjoy this app! It was the free app of the day today so I picked it up. I can't stay off of it! I have been an instrumentalist for nearly 20 years so I knew what a good part of the options would do. I created one and saved it. The only thing I don't like with it is yes I can e-mail myself the recording but nothing can play it that I have found thus far. Hopefully I will soon assuming I can find a converter to make it into mp3 I could. Other then that, I'm impressed!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, but could use some fine tuning. April 17, 2012

I'm glad I got this on while on the free app of the day, it's really fun! I've created some awesome sounding songs so far. The only problem is the recording feature. Sure you can save the node map, but you can't name your recordings, and you can only have one recording at a time. If this app were to be updated to enhance the recording, I'll change my review to five stars. For now though, because you can't name your recordings, and because you can only have one at a time, I give this app four stars. Totally worth it though.
