Book Description

November 1, 2008
The Affluent Artist invites artists from all walks of life to throw out the stereotypes about art and money and allow financial abundance into their lives. Whether you've been learning to train dolphins for SeaWorld, working as a Broadway dancer or as an Imagineer for Disney, chances are you've been learning about the craft, not about personal finance. This book offers business and financial planning wisdom to creative individuals who find themselves in the roles of the Starving Artist, the Corporate Artist, the Self Employed Artist and the Affluent Artist. The book includes stories and interviews with artists in each of these roles as well as "Financial Stuff You Just Gotta Know," a humorous and necessary primer on financial terms and situations, as well as a how-to on avoiding financial pitfalls along with a business fable based on Rick DiBiasio's years of experience helping artists find their financial footing.

Rick DiBiasio's easy read book is an eye opener for anyone who is balancing creative urges with creating livelihood. Chapter by chapter, he puts into accessible terms, the basics that most financial gurus understand and many high creatives cannot fathom. The Affluent Artist brings into welcomed alignment, the art of making meaningful creations and the craft of managing money. This book is a primer for our times, when sobriety in financial matters and innovative solutions of all kinds must partner up in productive new ways.

5.0 out of 5 stars No Starving Artists Here, October 11, 2008
By
TW (Florida, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Affluent Artist: How Creative Could You Be If Money Wasn't an Issue? the Money Book for Creative People (Paperback)
Rick DiBiasio's book speaks to the challenges faced by many of us who have successful careers in the arts - or those who want to pursue such a career but fear a conflict with their more materialistic (or practical) priorities. Dealing with money, accepting financial success and financial stability as part of the creative life instead of something that's antithetical to it is what this book is all about. Unlike so many financial books, this one is designed for people working on the opposite side of the brain. The author is clearly attuned to his own creative side and also to writing and speaking about financial matters to an unschooled audience. He seems to know that his readers would rather make a visit to the dentist than take an investing or econ course. While never pedantic, TAA explains the finer points in sufficient detail for the uninitiated to get the idea. He does so without using industry jargon or other insider terminology - and uses actual humor to further lighten things for the reader! Highly recommended for artists, musicians, and anyone else pursuing a creative career without intending to fulfill the starving part of the stereotype!

5.0 out of 5 stars I am Inspired and Encouraged by Rick Dibiasio's "The Affluent Artist", November 3, 2008
This review is from: The Affluent Artist: How Creative Could You Be If Money Wasn't an Issue? the Money Book for Creative People (Paperback)
I began Rick's book on a day when the inspiration was much needed. As I began to read through the book, I was especially impressed by the story of Sue Thompson, moving through all manner of life challenges to achieve her dreams and artistic creation.

I was so enlivened by Rick's ability to translate and relate artistry with the action needed to create consciously and responsibly in life.
This is a great book to keep and re-read for artists in any genre and a must have-on-hand for coaches and seminar leaders.
