A Book of Workable, Affordable Adventure Actvities,
By Jonathan Anscher (Colorado, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Affordable Portables: A Working Book of Initiative Activities & Problem Solving Elements (Paperback)
This book is an awesome way to build group initiatives for groups without the resources for a challenge course. The book has a ton of good information on how to build, run, and process all the activities. From simple energizing games to challenging group initiatives, the activities in here can bring an adventure-based experience to groups who don't have a challenge course. Categories including the activity needs, procedure, possible observation questions, and other variations give a detailed description of the activity and ideas for improvement. A perfect book for any group or adventure facillitator.

Great directions for a low cost alternative to a low ropes course.,

The new games and team-building activities in this book are good. Where it shines, though, is in explicit directions for building cheap and portable versions of some of the classic low-ropes challenge elements. Wild woozey, porthole, spider web, and islands. With some lumber and a few hours of carpentry, you can build a small, simple course for a youth group. Get a good safety book from a place like Project Adventure to operate the elements safely. Instructions here are sketchy.

I like this books variety of high energy or low energy activities. The authors do a better job then most books at processing the activities with the participants, and thus building a team spirit. Some of the activities require some complex props, besides those, most are easy to implement. I have used the activities with 9 year olds and up. I have bought copies to give to other group leaders for summer camps, bible camps and school groups.

I ordered this book just a few weeks ago and have already used many of the activities! They are very easy to follow and adapt according to your audience or the environment you are working in! Exactly what I was hoping for!
