"If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he marches to the beat of a different drummer. Let him keep pace with the beat he hears, however measured or far away."
Thoreau
My life is probably best characterized by this quote. Not only am I usually stepping to a different drummer, but I've also lived distinctly different lives, over time.
Currently, I'm a recruiting NCO for the Illinois Army National Guard - after having served on the front lines in Afghanistan for a year, training Afghan Border Police to defend their country against terrorists. For three decades, the military has been an integral aspect of my life. In addition to my current role in the Army, I've served as an active duty Marine, as well as a member of the Navy Reserves.
However, I've also led a diverse civilian professional life. I've been a technology consultant for AT&T and other companies, as well as an instructional designer and an independent business consultant.
Spiritually, my experience is similarly diverse. Some would describe me as a devout Christian - although my perspective is unusually "liberal," in that I have studied a spectrum of religions and philosophies, and I've integrated what seems most worthy into my frame of reference.
On the other hand, I'm very practical and grounded. I have to be, because I'm a family man from the suburbs, with 3 kids to raise and a roof to keep over their heads!
In my ample spare time (not!) I'm an author. I've just published my first book - about my recent experience in Afghanistan. It's a compilation of blog posts I wrote - many of which were featured on the Rev. Charles Henderson's website, Godweb, while I was on active duty.
The book is called "Afghan Journal - a Soldier's Year in Afghanistan." To learn more about me and the book, visit the website at:

I hope you'll read Afghan Journal, and let me know what you think!
Thanks
Jeff
P.S. I also offer a blog called "Life, Love & Truth" - posts are featured on my Amazon Author Page. However, if you'd like to visit the site or snag the RSS feed as a subscriber, you'll find it at - www.lifeloveandtruth.com.
