All photos, no words,

This book is charming. Though 30 years old, it is still as much fun to look through as when I first bought it. It is all photos, virtually no words; photos of, well, Afghan trucks, which are highly decorated. The trucks are spangled, tasseled, and bejeweled like the camels who preceded them. Every available surface is painted, in little panels like mughal scenes. After the newspaper photos of what has transpired in Afghanistan in the last 30 years, this book is an antidote and a window into an Afghani sensibility and enjoyment of life that is otherwise unavailable to the West.
