4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent 'Quilt-like' patterns.
I have recently purchased this book and I can't wait to get started on the afghans within. Especially the Old-fashioned Fans pattern. Most of the patterns are crocheted in pieces and sewn together to make them look more like quilts. There are plenty of of patterns to go around for different gifts for family or friends. The instructions are easy to read even for...

3.0 out of 5 stars Afghans for the older set
I purchased this book based on the rave reviews, but after looking at it I think I will return it. The inside cover reads that the patterns are based on the best patterns collected over the past 60 years -- and they're not kidding. The book is a collection of patterns published by the Red Heart yarn company. The patterns are, in a word, dated. When I heard "crochet...

5.0 out of 5 stars Something to please everyone, January 8, 2000
This review is from: Afghans & Crochet Classics (Crochet Treasury) (Paperback)
I was taken with this book from the moment I looked through it. It has a diverse selection of patterns, and some very unusual ones (one of my favorites is a children's blanket crocheted and then embroidered with ponies which have tassles for tails--clever and appealing!) Several of the patterns are decades old and have been successfully updated for this book. This is my favorite collection.

When I heard "crochet classics" I thought it meant timeless, but actually it means "old fashioned." I'm in my late 20's and I like simple, modern designs--this book just wasn't for me. Although a few of the patterns are very nice, the majority of the patterns are not to my taste. The book does not only have afghan patterns, but also also a few hideous 80's sweaters.

I've been crocheting for years, and have gone through a lot of afghan starts and stops. This book has so many wonderful patterns in it that I've managed to finish two of them in a two month period. My only complaint (which isn't really a complaint) is that it only has two baby blanket patterns, yet has six Christmas patterns. Wonderful easy to follow directions, with beautiful pictures.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love this book, May 3, 2010

This review is from: Afghans & Crochet Classics (Crochet Treasury) (Paperback)
I love how I can make beautiful blankets without having to start with 228 chain st. Every blanket I have made has been loved and lasted. I wish more crochet blanket design artists would make a book which allows you the grace of not having to remember is that 101 or 120 chain st.? Thank you
