This review is from: Afoot & Afield Atlanta: A Comprehensive Hiking Guide (Afoot and Afield) (Paperback)
Marcus Woolf makes it easy to plan the appropriate hiking trip to fit your needs. The book includes GPS coordinates and ranks hikes on difficulty and time all reachable within a couple hours drive from Atlanta. The book includes easy to read maps and guides for each hike. If you're looking for a weekend getaway with nothing but the woods, or a nice stroll with the dog or the kids, this book can help you make the right choice for yourself or your hiking party!

I ran into this guy on a trail, he was measuring it with a wheel on a stick. He definitely did his homework and found several of my favorite trails. As much as I hate to see them become more widely known, I'm glad to see someone sharing these great little features of this suburban-sprawl town, and doing it right.

A must for Atlanta area hikers,

As an avid hiker, civil war and history buff, and local resident, I have found great value in Mr. Woolf's hiking guide. The author has obviously spent a great deal of time combing the area for the best of the best of hiking trails. Everything from suburban Atlanta jaunts of a couple miles to overnight backpacks on the Appalachian Trail are included. The author's style is fun and inviting, and relevant information is included for all of the well-selected hikes.Of particular interest to me, is the author's choice to include many area Civil War battlefield hikes, including Chickamuaga, Kennesaw Mountain, and Picketts Mill. Additionally, there are two good hikes at FDR state park in Warm Springs. These are sure to satisfy the combo hiking/history buffs out there. All in all, this is a must have for anyone in the Atlanta area who enjoys the outdoors and walking. There's enough hikes in this book to last for many years. I highly recommend it! Hats off to Mr. Woolf!!! |
