This is a spectacular album, especially coming from Beltrami. He has been composing soundtracks to suspenseful and creepy movies for a long time (The Woman in Black, My Soul To Take, and The Thing, to name more recent ones). This one works really well in giving the whole atmosphere an old yet electrically tense feel. (Gramophone Lullaby) Anything could happen at any moment, and things certainly do happen (in Bed Bugs and The Library, for instance). If you want just plain eerie, go for Goblin Trouble. Gramophone Lullaby and Main Titles are the two tracks that truly enchanted me and told the story. The others were subtle in supporting the film, and didn't often force the scary moment. Don't Be Afraid of the Dark has opened my eyes to Marco Beltrami, and I am looking forward to browsing his various contributions to the world of music.

...not even a CD-R? really? that's very depressing as I love the music in this, some of Beltrami's best in years and we get stuck with a download! thank you Lakeshore Music for just flat out giving us the finger! La-La Land records really needs to release this through their company.

I love classical movie scores, and this music is so amazing. It portrays emotion so well. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I liked the movie, but the soundtrack is superb!! The reason I gave it 4 stars was because I do not like digital downloads, because I love tangible CDs that I can touch, stare at, play in my car (I only have a cd player/radio), and leaf through the booklets. 5 stars for the music, 4 stars for the medium.
